Hello, fellow milsurp enthusiasts, having trouble with my newly aquired carbine failing to extract two out of five rounds. Put a new recoil spring in and also a extractor, still does the same thing. Using federal .30 carbine. This gem has a new sa barrel and headspaces good. I have a field gauge and it doesn't even come close to closing on it. Any ideas?

Not a good idea to #### with the nut unless absolutely necessary. Try applying some Hoppes or other bore solvent to the piston and work it back and forth to see if it frees up first.

Nope, it's not the piston.all the brake kleen and g96 I fired in there free'd it up. I put my extra power spring in it but am starting to think it is a mag problem. I see that the source has the kci mags. Anyone own one for the carbine?

That rules out the Universal carbine loose mag issue. Definitely try another magazine. Also try shooting the rifle by holding the magazine in the up position.

How long was your old spring. Think one in good shape should be about 10 1/4 or so mine is 10 1/8 with no issues. Did ya happen to try another mag before the spring change out?

The one that came in it was 10" the usgi replacement was 10 1/8 and the over power is 10 3/8. Only have the one mag right now, 2 on order

"...make a gas nut wrench..." No you don't. I've never had any issue with a Carbine that a good bath didn't fix. The gas pistons were not designed to be removed or otherwise mucked around with by the user either.
Extraction issues have nothing to do with the mag or headspace.
