SFRC surplus 7.62x54r cracked cases question

I have read about some of the surplus 7.62x54r having cracked cases at the neck after firing..... Just curious to know if anyone has had that experience with this ammo.

Ive had it too. I think it was with Chinese surplus, i remember the dull finish on the casings. the Russian ammo is a bit shinier, but then again I am shooting both... Havent seen any case separation, just cracks at the throat and the shoulder but im not too worried about it.

what were you shooting it in ?
Sometimes my SVT40 will crack them
but not my mosin...same ammo
its the neck though so im not real worryed about this..its not like they get reloaded

This is just milsurp ammo in general im talking about.
Nothing i purchased from SFRC

With surplus ammo cracked cases shouldn't be any surprise. It happens.

With the surplus i got from SFRC with my my svt-40 (factory 10, silver tip, Bulgarian i believe) shooting from both my mosin nagant and svt-40, approx 5/100 rounds are cracked.
the Chinese surplus i got from tradeex i haven't seen one yet (but haven't shot as much of it).

I didn't notice any blow back from any of the rounds at the time, only noticed when cleaning up. Heres a picture of them, going from the worst on the left, to barely a crack on the right (these are all from the mosin)

...But im thinking when you get case rupture it may have quite adverse effects on accuracy, not that i have noticed yet i usually shoot at a steel plate.

Thats also exactly what I get

I have a couple of ammo cans of South Africian .303, about 50% of the time the case will crack. It is early 60's ammo, and I suspect the brass has lost some of it's elasticity. The splits on these cases look identical to my .303 cases.

I've had Soviet surplus that cracks like that, through both my SVT and Mosin.

I've shot my mosin all winter and only noticed that about 1 in 10 had cracked necks when I was cleaning up the hundreds of empty shells this spring so il say you have nothing to wory about.

I have had a few rounds of my surplus russian ammo do the same. about 1 out of every 50 or so.

Just remember...the age of these EX MILITARY rifles...and how many thousands of rounds already fired
bound to be a little wear in the chambers ;-)

Mine came with a broken shell extractor in the tool kit... so it mustof been something common even back then

Yes. I have experienced this too in Chinese/Russian surplus 762 x 54, although the cracks I've seen are more towards the mouth. I attributed it to the age of the cases/ammo (approx 40 yrs) and maybe the looser chambers of the rifles they are shot in.
