after posting a thread on which all steel rifle I should get the zastava m98 came up. it looks interesting. and to top it of it comes with iron sights!!! which if you know me is a must to have on a hunting, brush, camp gun. the stock is not the best looking but I think the rifle is very nice looking. there is not much out there for information and for even pictures. can someone fill me in on the gun. post some pics of it too maybe?
thanks.

you may find some thread over there about those lovely rifles.

whatever the name Interarms X, Zastava, Remington 798 and few other like Charles Daly ie. they work and they re doing what they re suppose to.

and I like them the fact you can get a commercial mauser 98 action in left hand is one of the reason.

They are a commercial M98 action. One of the best designs ever. The actions can be a little rough at first but smooth up with some use or light polishing in places. I have one on the way and have owned a Charles Daly for several years It was initially chambered in .243 Win but since it is a standard length action, I had it rechambered to 243-06 AI. It shoots under an inch with my loads.

Since they are based on the M98 action any number of aftermarket stocks, triggers, etc will work and are readily available if you decide to customize it more to your liking.

I personally find the wood stocks on the recent ones a bit poorly finished and bulky but that could be easily remedied if you're good with wood working. Not sure what the synthetic stocks are like but I'll find out in a couple weeks.

Does anyone know if the boyds mark x stock will fit the Zastava rifles? The Zastava stocks are only available unfinished and semi-inletted, while the mark x comes finished in laminate.

I just bought one in 9.3x62 from Tradex. I have not shot it yet as the dies and bases are on order. The steel looks well finished, the trigger feels good, and it hefts well. The fit and finish on the wood is a little crude but only up close.

From what I've seen I would buy another.

do u guys know what scope bases would be best for this rifle?? i just bought a model 70 myself but cant find the bases i was told would fit ..

I think they did improvements, my Zastava Manlicher 70 in 308 have very nice wood and the bluing is deep... JP.

I recently bought one in 9.3x62 and it shoots well but I am finding the bolt to be sticky if I don't pull it back at the right angle. I am going to try to work it for an hour or so with valve grinding paste to see if it will loosen up. This has worked for me to smooth out other rifles so we'll see if it works here.

I recently also got a Zastava Mannlicher in 9.3x62 and I believe it be quite good value. In comparing it to my CZ550FS in 308 I initially thought it had a longer barrel, however it is the stock which seems to have about one inch greater length of pull compared to the CZ.
