Fellow CGN members, I am getting my hands on a 6.8spc conversion for my xcr. I did my research online about the caliber and it looks like greatest invention since Vodka.:)
Does anyone has any experience with it, I would like to hear about some first hand experiences, including reloading.
Thanks

Granted I do have my 6.8 kit up for sale (yes shameless plug, I know) but I do love the caliber, just have other things on my mind.
Reloading is a must for 6.8 due to the availability of great 6mm projectiles and cost of factory ammo. There seems to be a shortage of good performing 6.8 in Canada and reloading really pushes the envelope for what the caliber can actually do.
IMHO spec 1 (original SAAMI spec), chamber, twist rate and performance got the 6.8 off to a bad start. The later parts (spec II) are where the 6.8 comes into it's own. Rob Arms uses the spec 2.

It's very soft shooting, almost no recoil with the XCR platform - ditch that factory abortion of a brake/flash hider if you plan on hunting with it - plenty of good options out there - battle comp, pws triad etc.
IIRC hornady brass utilizes a small rifle primer - remington brass uses a large primer - not sure why etc.
It does prefer medium-fast burning powders - accurate powders has some fantastic offerings.

its really good. has about same light recoil as 5.56. I like every thing about it. shoots pretty flat to 300 and has really good power. I have only used hornady match 110 and vmax 110. very good rounds. but since it uses the .270 bullets there is lots of options for reloading .I really want to see how a 90gr bullet does in my 1/11 twist.
I think it performs less erratic as 5.56 but not as sluggish as 7.62X39.

My buddy had one which he sold a few months later. The cost and availability of brass was his biggest reason for getting rid of it. Factory ammo is expensive and not always easy to find. The 6.8 is great on paper but for some reason it never caught on.
I would get your hands on some reloading dies and brass before buying the rifle so you know what your looking at for availability.

I'm personally waiting for some more manufacturers to make some non restricted rifles in 300 Blackout. I have an AR in 300BLK and love it. The problem is that a lot of what's best about it is wasted on a range only rifle and our silly Canadian laws banning suppressors. It would make a great round for deer hunting at 300yds or less.
A Tavor or an XCR-L in 300BLK would be perfect for me.

Good luck, if you reload and can line up a supply of brass you will be fine and will enjoy the rifle. Better buy a brass catcher as well.

Sorry, but I don't get this "can't find brass " thing. I ordered my remington brass from WSS, wanted to try Hornady so got Mystic player to order me 500 . Got curious after being on 6.8Forums about SSA brass. Ordered 500 SSA brass and a week later had some SSA brass. Haven't tried a 300BLK but the 6.8 is a deadly deer rifle out to 300, and a little bit further! For a brass catcher get a 3Bucc.

SSA brass is Small Rifle primer right?

from reading 6.8 forums zdragunov - it looks like you want to go with the small rifle primer (SSA, hornady) - (this is something i did not know!) as the LR primer brass will show pressure signs early and flatten primers

"...order me 500..." Absolutely the best practice when buying any firearm chambered in any new or unusual cartridge. The manufacturers' marketing types think nothing of discontinuing stuff without caring about their existing customers. Buying brass, dies and a shell holder, even if you're not reloading now, ensures your ammo supply. Also adds to your 'retirement fund' down the road. Haven't a clue what the virgin .41 AE brass I have is worth, but you can't buy any now.

My XCR in 6.8 is my primary deer hunting rig. I have a .223 conversion for plinking.

Excellent ergonomics if you modify the XCR to fit you. I have to decide on a low profile BUIS set and it's all done (I will have to post the details of
all modifications and reasons behind them).

Nice little cartridge. I have played with it mostly in a short Noveske AR, and I have been very impressed with it. Good to know about he small rifle primers. I have a good number of cases of Hornady ammo that will be reloaded after it is shot!
