Hunting fantasy... Just bough a 257 Wtby Mag....

Just ordered from Wholesale 6 boxes of original Wheaterby ammo in 87 gr Hornady Interlock, i knew i'd find something to take back my 350.00 credit i had there for over a year....
Almost 3900 fps, this is plain crazy, i think it is even faster than my 220 Swift... JP.

Yes warp speed is great. Feel free to load the 80gr ttsx for deer. At conventional hunting ranges fast mono bullets are just plain magic. Less meat damage as well compared to say a btip at Roy speeds.

It didn't help when Winchester was full of crap regarding the .264 velocities.

Half the time Roy's numbers had a little blue sky in them, but the 6.5mm also didn't help Winchester. Let's face it, Roy Weatherby was the P.T. Barnum of the firearms world. No one before or since has had half the promotability of Weatherby.

I have shot a number of deer with the 257 wby. I have not had any issues with meat loss, even when hitting bones, etc. I do use tough bullets (partitions) though. I did try the bergers and they just blow up at the speeds in the 257.

I hope you enjoy the 257 as much as everyone else I know ;)

Hey, I own a 257 and no 264 so I suppose that just about answers it, doesn't it?

If you go by the marketing, the 257 Wby buries the 264 Win Mag.

If you actually look at the performance of the two cartridges, they are virtually indistinguishable. Not the marketing hoopla, but what they can actually do when loaded to the same pressures, with the same barrel length, etc.

All together i have 120 Wheaterby factory rounds of 100 gr Spire point and 160 rounds of Wheaterby factory rounds of 87 gr Spire point, 280 rounds ( this Norma ammo is supposed to be on par with rolled ones) before reloading one single round, a lot of fun ahead and.... Those 2 coyotes that spent the winter at the end of my western field @ 550-600 yards this winter will live their last winter, they dont want to come closer, i will just reach out further now, two 87 gr @ almost 3900 fps will do it... JP.

After thinking about those 2 coyotes, i thought that i will need more magnification, i am thinking Sightron 8X32X56 LRMOA... JP.

Why not just just track 'em to their den area in spring and do 'em in with a .22?
The last den I cleared out in the Water Valley area was with an iron sighted 7mm
Brazilian Mauser.

When the critters got pups to feed, it's damn easy to bait 'em up or listen and track 'em
to their home turf, then wait for them or the pups to show themselves.:)
