Had some outstanding successes on Sat at the range, found an excellent load for my 700 Classic 6.5X55 I picked up this winter.



This is a 140 gn Nosler Partition, Lapua cases, Win LRP primers, IMR 7828 and bullet seated way out, just .005" off lands, rifle has very long throat. COAL 3.23" Optics is a 4-12 Leupold

Found an adequate load for an old Parker Hale Super Safari in 308 Norma I picked up this spring just to play with. Mounted an old Weaver K4 on it I had in the drawer and it shot 180 gn A-frames into 1.5" @3050 fps. So I'm saying that's probably the best I can do with a 4X scope these days. Found what looks like a winner for my Whelen, it's also a 700 Classic with 4-12 Leupold 250 Partition just shy of 2700 fps R-P cases and Win primers, IMR 4320 and COAL 3.53. Another long throated Classic. Sorry no photos as I shot a bunch of junk on the one target so photos not doable, but it shot several loads into 3/4" and 1 group less than 1/2. Next trip I'll take more targets and take some pics.

The 9.3X300 WM hasn't reached reported velocities yet but the sub moa part is certainly true!



Day was high overcast filtered light (perfect for chronographing) about 23 deg C and 45% humidity.
 
2888 is a getting warm as a 140gr.load but typical swede, accuracy is certainly not suffering.what I find amazing is how mild it is to shoot even with a warm load.
 
That's one of the more intriguing things about Doug, simultaneously, he maintains interest in, works up loads for, fiddles with, and shoots numerous rifles. Me, I can only give my full attention to one at a time. Maybe that's why I like general purpose rifles. Since I can only concentrate on one, I might as well be able to do everything with it.
 
Great work Doug!!..gotta love that 700 Classic in 6.5x55. Mine is on it's third barrel, lol.
I also have found IMR 7828 very suitable for this chambering with the 140 Partition.

Like Doug, I am usually fiddling with 4 or 5 at any one time.

Was out yesterday with 4 rifles, a 243, a Vanguard S2 30-06, a 700CDL 300 Win Mag, and a P-H M81 Classic in 308 Norma Mag.
The 243 and the 308 Norma I have had for some time, but the 30-06 and 300 Win are new to me.

Was trying a new load in the 243....the 70 grain Sierra HPBT Match chased by IMR 4007 SSC delivered a .56" and a .66" group at 100.

Just verifying the 200 grain Accubond in the 308 Norma. Three shots at 100 all touching, 3 at 200 in .92".... doesn't get better than that.

My new Vanguard 30-06 really surprised me with two groups at 100 [180 Partition and IMR 4831] one was .31", the other .55" :)

The new 300 Win Mag shot 3 180 Partitions into .74" and .84" using H1000, and 3 into 1.1" with the 195 Chinchaga bonded, using Norma MRP.

Just have to decide which of these three [or other 20+] will accompany me on my LEH Moose hunt. ;)

The original Remington barrel on my 6.5x55 Classic would group 5 - Partitions [140 or 125] Just like Looky's target.

But it would not shoot any boattailed bullet well. Washed the throat in around 3000 rounds.

Fitted a Pac-Nor 1-8" 24" tube, which shot everything well. Tipped over a lot of game with those barrels.
Shot a lot of targets as well. Always happy with the results on the second tube. It lasted 2800 rounds
After replacing it, I sectioned and split the barrel...It had no rifling for the first 4½" [Still shot 1½moa]

Now I have a Shilen 1-8" on it, and had the chamber cut with a bit shorter throat.
It's a dandy, too. So far, every load I have tried has shot 1¼moa or less, sometimes much less.:)

This barrel now has about 150 rounds through it, so should work for a bit yet, lol.

Out at the looky range and got five there.
I think there is six, but I lost count and couldn't tell by the big hole.
Need to find that target and measure it up.
Hundred yards shooting my new to me M65 Tikka in 6.5x55.

What happened to that shot that's "way out" of the group ? LOL

Skeeter bit me ear.
Rascal crawled under me muffs and had a chew.
Not being a smarty pants, but the wind was blowing a bit and
the rain clouds came in.
I did a thread on that day a while back.
Pretty surprised that group was that nice.
Surprises are nice..........ya know.
Them blue lines are about an inch.
 


This is how you take a picture of your target from the range. No bull####, everything is out in the open, nothing to hide.

No offence, but with all the bull####ters on this website, its hard to believe anyone's groups unless they take a full picture of the target with nothing covering it up. I would hope they're some people who feel the same way I do about this.

Some of us on here have proven our credibility and a trust has been established........I often shoot several calibers at a single aiming point (read target) so a photo of the whole target would just be confusing. If you choose not to believe my posts or 'Lookys that is entirely up to you, I have nothing to prove to you or anyone else, just sharing my Saturday at the range, with the guys.
 
Hey Mumbles, if you are questioning 'Looky's target I can vouch for it.
I sold him that rifle and it has shot tighter groups than he showed on several trips to the range.
One of the best groups was sub-quarter inch using 140 Nosler Accubonds over H1000 powder witnessed and verified by a present range officer...
 
Mumbles.....sounds a lot like sour grapes to me.

There are a number of sufficiently mature people on here that are above reproach.

So take your 91 posts and scoot along with your petty complaints.
