New M38 info needed!

My biggest regret is selling my M38. It was all original, all matching numbers, right down to the firing pin. I still remember it, serial# 31572. it was Husqvarna M38 with a straight bolt, 1899 on the receiver. I had the bayonet, frog, stripper clips, oil bottles, and the bandolier. I sold it for 275 about 10 years ago. Not a day goes by that I don't regret it. Been looking for another one ever since.

Why not buy another. They have not gone up significantly in price in 10 years IMO compared to say K98. Even a Mosin has jumped 70$. You can find a straight bolt M38's Swede Short Rifles as they are still available. Jeff at Accuracy Plus (www.accuracyplus.biz) stocks a ton of different milsurps, I have bought several from him in person and on the phone while Jean Plamendon at P & S Militaria (http://psmilitaria.50megs.com/guns.html) has a M38 huskie bent bolt on hold for me, you can reach him on the phone in the mornings before noon or send him an email. You will have to find all other bits at various vendors though, such as the frog, bayo etc.... though Libertytree in NY ships to Canada and they have a lot of variety (https://www.libertytreecollectors.com/productcart/pc/ltc-default.asp). good luck

Right on, I was on the fence about buying that prvi ammo but it's nice and cheap and if it shoots well I'm going to pick some up. And yeah for sure I'm hooked lol. I did notice that bayonet piece is loose but as long as the cleaning rod is in, it's not going anywhere so I'm not too worried. I just have to get that thin layer of rust out if the bore. I don't think it's anything to worry about. It's just in the rifling and looks thin. I'll post a pic when I finish work and maybe I'll get a professional opinion lol I'm going to order a cheap lee loader next week and start reloading. I bought a box of Winchester gxp2 for 40 bucks at accuracy, wow!

OMG, small world. That converted CG 1938 used to be my rifle. Lol, I thought it looked familiar. I traded it back to Jeff for the current Huskie m38 with bent bolt I have. The handguard is beechwood. Your stock was in rough shape so I used tung oil finish on it. The stock is the original stock and is made of elm I believe! I didn't think the stock disc was original as it is a great shooter! Enjoy, I am glad she went to a good home!
Sam! I am ashamed of you. Selling a Swede? LOL

LOL, very true, though I did so reluctantly, trust me!!! The good news is that Jeff, the dealer, took it in as a trade for my current Huskie, I figure it's an equivocal trade in. I also knew that another milsurp enthusiast would give it a good home. Jeff has a huge selection of milsurps and has an up and running website. His store in cottage country is not very big, but his inventory is massive. In the 3 years I've been going to his shop his selection and offerings have doubled in size.

Outlaw, pick up any new Swedes lately? I did manage to buy another Huskie for my buddy who will use it as his deer rifle. He likes the loads I have worked up for him and cannot believe it shoots as good as our buddy's Sako at 1500$ plus in 6.5x55.

Not lately Sam. Most gun prices down here have been falling. But, Swedes have been on the rise it seems. It does appear that finally the Swede M96 especially are no longer a secret as to how they shoot. So, demand growing and few excellent ones coming up for sale lately. If one does, it is now a $450 on up rifle instead of $300 about a year ago. Any excellent rated rifle seems to go real fast. That 1941 Husky M38 you saw that cost me $325 a few months ago would sell easily at $600 today. Getting too rich for my blood to collect anymore right now.

Beware up there, my friend Buffdog is buying all or them away from you!! LOL

Whoa Outlaw, that's quite a serious spike in the market price for Swedes. Up here, the Swede market is somewhat less volatile for the moment. Though, now with the cat being outta the bag, I'd say it's only a matter of time before we see an increase in prices. Look at how much a mix master RC K98 goes for up here... $600+ now.

The RC K98 are pretty much the same here now. I see some pretty junky Swedes going for about $350 lowest. And they do look like junk for the most part. It also seems a lot of people whom want a Mauser for Vintage Bolt matches down here are really stocking up. So, I'll keep looking around, but not too many buys any longer.
