So I was thinking of buying a good 1911. Hopefully I will sell a few guns to help me fund it and the rest I will see.

Budget is $1000 with no more then $2000 and I would like to keep it around the $1500 mark.

The gun will be used as a range gun.

I can't really give much more info then that because Im all over the place with what I like.

So far I like. I do like commanders by the way. I also do like the traditonal 70 series colts.

KIMBER ECLIPSE PRO TARGET. - Just a ###y gun. Almost wouldn't want to shoot the thing which would be a shame.
KIMBER PRO CARRY ll - Can't go wrong. All Black. Wouldn't be worried about firing the thing.
STI EDGE. - Great looking gun. Too bad its out of my price range.
STI DUTY ONE

I don't care so much for brand but these all do look nice.

I am going alot for looks but want something reliable first with quality to match the price. My Norc shoots everytime all the time so i would assume anything i get should be good.

Anyone have any ideas what is available in Canada

If I were to buy another 1911 right now it I would try and find a springfield trp,if you want stainless check out the ruger 1911/ammo deal at can am. Have you looked at the sam 1911's? You have a good budget but a sam is a great 1911 and shoots just as good as my kimber and itll leave lots of money for ammo

Everyone will promote their favorites but I would recommend a STI. Perhaps a Duty One or a Sentry. Freedom Venture ( sponsor on the mast head) are good to deal with,
 
SAM, well machined, under 1000$ the parts are machined better then my STI. I got the SAM echanced 9mm, pops got the commander in 45. Love both.
 
You need to do a lot of reading. Be prepared that 1911 in many cases is a money pit.
For $1500 You should be able to buy a decent pistol - they are more expensive to make than the newer platforms - so "decent" is the best word to describe its quality.
Lot of hand fitting involved, some small machined, forged parts - all this costs, so to buy a reliable, durable 1911 - You have to be prepared both mentally and financially :)
Here we have also the Norinco fans, but to turn Norinco into a quality pistol (many people around don't even understand what quality 1911 is) You need a lot of time and even more luck.
QC with Norinco doesn't exists, so You will see all kinds of mess with heat treatment of the Chinese steel. Forged means nothing actually. It must be done properly and some of these
pistols are ok, while some others...well...not so much. I had a few 1911s in the past and while I like them, I'm keep coming back to more simpler and less expensive platform that is more reliable in my limited experience.

I didn't know that crimson traces were avalaible..... :)

I changed the grips because the original ones were too bulky for a 1911.

So You have a nice gun.
