Cannon build project

What are you trying to achieve, replica, scale model, functional homemade. For replicas and scale models there are lots of plans on the net. Search mountain cannon and you will get a set of plans.

Just curious if any one knows where I can get plans, the legality of this, and any other helpful information about this.

Geez, really?

Read the stickies at the top of the forum WRT Antique laws and get it from the source.

Ever heard of Google? Bing? Any other search engines? Lots of plans out there, lots available for free, and lots of pictures. That latter is of some importance, as if you are not able to think your way through making one based upon just seeing a picture, as was succinctly pointed out on another forum, you pretty much do not have the skills to follow a blueprint anyway.

Decide whether you want a true scale replica of a particular era, make or model, or if you simply want smoke and noise. The former looks nicer, the latter will satisfy the urge faster and sooner.

FWIW stay away from caplock ignition and you will be fine. But don't take my word for it, read the applicable laws defining a Prescribed Antique, and which define what is NOT considered a Firearm, for the purposes of the firearms act. Then, as long as you don't do anything rash with it, you are good to go.

This is the line that applies "1. A reproduction of a flintlock, wheel-lock or matchlock firearm, other than a handgun, manufactured after 1897."

A cannon is classified as a matchlock, and if not built to a design meant to be fired with one hand, is not a handgun.

Cheers
