Does anybody know much about how good these guns are quality and reliability wise? I am thinking about buying a 1911 military model. I know they are from the Phillipines, any help or insites would be appreciated

You can do a search here, quite a bit of info. In the USA they are sold under American Tactical Imports if you are looking for reviews.

I fondled one at Wolverine a few weeks back. It seemed to be well sorted and tight. I'm deciding between a 9mm 1911 and a CZ shadow. If I go 1911 it'll be a SAM enhanced or omega I think

SAM 1911's are really quite good. Of course, I'm talking about the bottom end of the 1911 market though, not the middle or top end. The middle being $1000-1800, and top end being above $2000 and can go up to $4000 and more.

But for a basic 1911, I think they are well made, the company's been building 1911's since the 1970's for Phillipines military contracts, and since 2008 they added CNC machines too. A year ago i shot one in Calgary, it was accurate, and really had the appearance of an old G.I. model from US military service. A few months ago I looked at one at Wolverines in Gasoline Alley, and found it was even better than the one I shot, it had a very slick action and trigger.

I think they had it on for $510, but it wasn't an Enhanced, and it's likely long gone now.

If you're looking for a military type 1911, you can't go wrong with CanadaAmmo's combo deal, with the Norinco.
Frame is forged, not cast, with no "Norinco" or "China", stamped on it.

The gf has a 9mm commander in stainless. The fit and finish is quite good, trigger good, shoots good. Only negative would be I find it shoots low, but easy to compensate as long as I do my part. Thinking about getting one in .45 for myself.
