Spent another 6 1/2 hours at the range on Sat, shot pretty much non-stop for all of it as I had 9 rifles so no need to wait for barrel cooling. Had a couple of highlights I'll share with y'all and my 9.3X300WM did some amazing stuff but I just posted it on that thread, so I won't reiterate it here.

The afternoon started off at 4:00 PM with a temp of 23 deg C, humidity of 64%, less than 5 kts wind from the south and 5/10 broken cumulus cloud cover. Temp dropped to 17 deg C by 10:30 PM all else remained much the same.

This was my Whelen, both groups are the same load, shot aprox 1/2 hour apart between 8:30 and 10:00 PM - Rifle is a Mod 700 Classic, all factory original wearing a Leupold Vari X II 4-12 X40.

This group was with an old 308 NM I picked up in a Parker Hale Super Safari, it has seen better days and some hack "refinished" the stock, removing any evidence of checkering. This poor old dog got an ancient Weaver K4 from the drawer. There was a day when I could shoot 3/4" groups with a 2.5X scope but I'm afraid those days are long gone. Had to seat the A-frames to suit the magazine box instead of the throat, so it is what it is. I felt I was doing better than 1 7/8" and all the loads ran pretty much same size and shape, so I suspect this is about what she'll do and that's it, with this bullet. I may try different bullets or I may just sight it in and keep it for a loaner. I made up another 30 cases today from my stash of W-W 300 WM brass, so now I have an even 50 for her.
There was nothing else of note in the group so that's all I have for ya this weekend.

PS.......... Are these photos to your spec's now Mumbles Marble Mouth, or maybe I threw one more than 4" out LOL:p:p:p

Yup, them maturing eyes............among other maturing things.
Hopefully me and the gun powder feller can get some good groups today if
this grass growing climate changes a wee bit.
The full wood is coming with us too......................

How come you got a pair of walker's?
Skeeters git under yer cappella?

Great groups with the whelen (a favorite of mine). How is brass life (your velocities are much better than I ever got, albeit with different powder)?
Pat

Nice velocity from the 35 whelen, I recently bought a chrony. Im eager to see how fast my 225gr accubonds fly out of mine. Might try some 250gr bullets after seeing the velocities of yours :)

I always enjoy reports like these with photos and the load data. Very informative. Thanks for posting. I am assuming that these are 100 groups?

Too many 9.3s and 375 loads 'Looky, was starting to get a little punchy and sore........last time out the Whelen put 3 into one hole about .375 long by .358 wide and then I dumped one 3/4" out. It also shot 225 AB into 1/2" with a couple loads. Didn't really want to use the 225 ABs though as I shoot them from my 350 RM, so I was looking for a heavier bullet load......and I would say I found it !!!
That 9.3 takes a significant amount of concentration to shoot well from the bench, it is somewhat exhausting after seven loads and tends to leave one a might twitchy. Add 5 loads for the .375 TRUE KING and then the Whelen and 308 Norma...........I was pretty beat and beat-up by 10:30. Now I'll spread them out over the next weeks and take more little stuff and see if I can't fine tune them to their full potential. I still have three 243s to finish playing with and the 250 Sav as well as a couple more 375s and somewhere in there I have to rebarrel my 22-284 and get back to work with it. I found another 150 W-W 284 cases at the Looky gun show, so I'm creeping up on 200 weighed cases for it. So many guns, so little time !!!!

" So many guns, so little time !!!! "
I have been following some of your threads over the last few weeks and the hardships you have had to endure bring a tear to my eye.
If there is anything I can do to help ease your suffering please allow me to help.
Really, if I need to take one of your rifles off your hands so that you can concentrate on the next rifle designated for your next Africian safari, please let me know.
I'm surprised that you had time to get any shooting in with having to build an addition so that you can display all of your mounts.
Sorry, I just couldn't help myself.

You know that you live a life that some of us can only dream of.
Keep up the great shooting and the great posts.

Hell no !!! these are at 3 Hund...............well OK 100 mtrs!!!
You just about had me there for a fraction of a second.:D That 35 Whelen is an impressive rifle. I've never owned one, but have certainly thought about it from time to time.
