I saw on here somewhere that someone was trying to bring in an AR style rifle that was going to be Non-restricted.
Anyone know if this was/is true?
thanks for the help.

There are always someone trying bring an AR style rifle into Canada you have to lot more specific with your questions than just "Non-Restricted AR style rifle" what exactly are you looking for.
There are huge list of rifles already falls into "AR Style"

And what exactly is an "AR style" rifle? Is having a pistol grip and detachable magazine enough? If it shares no common parts with an AR-15, why is it not an "AK style" rifle, or a "G3 style" rifle, as they all share the same features?

You will never have a NR AR without a change in the regulations. It is restricted by name.

AR style is a complete misnomer in my opinion.

If you mean a rifle that is semi auto, has a pistol grip, shoots 223/556 and takes stanag mags.... The following come in non-restricted options...

Robinson Arms XCR
Robinson Arms M96
Bushmaster ACR
Keltec SU16

Guns that come in 223/556 that can be modified to take stanag mags and have non-restricted versions...

Swiss Arms Classic Line
VZ58

None of these are AR15 variants.

You forgot the AR180b.

Also the Tavor and Type 97, if bullpups are acceptable.

The TNW Aero Survival Rifle looks good too. I think the ergonomics are similar to AR style, but none of them have last round hold open.

I think he means the MPAR 5.56 by Master Piece Arms. I believe it is going through the certification process still with Blueline activities being the importer.

Ah, yeah. I forgot about this one... might be a cheaper alternative to an XCR if it goes through as NR.

Type 97 is kinda like the chinamans ar15 not much aftermarket support but sorry to say this you arent going to touch a non res ar15 everything else is just an imitation.
