Does anyone know of a source for 5rnd enbloc clips in Canada, Marstar hasn't had them for awhile? I've inquired about shipping some in from the States but the shipping price is well ridiculous.

"...hunting on the other hand..." Only matters if Quebec has it in your hunting regs. Not all Provinces do. Give your MNR a call.
Shipping from the States can kill you, for sure. Try Epp's or a site sponsor from Alberta. 5 rounds only in AB. Epp's tends to have stuff nobody else has.
I believe there are How-to's on line for making 'em though. Plan 'B' would be to load a clip with 5 loaded rounds and 3 empty cases. Mind you, an M1 Rifle is a beast to lug around while hunting. Not such a big deal if you're in a blind.

No such ting as a 5 rounds limit in Québec hunting regs. Your roomate is off the track. The only limitation in mag capacity in the hunting regulation touch the hunt of waterfowl birds and it limit the capacity of shotguns to 3 rounds total AKA 2 in mag and 1 in the chamber.

I wouldn't resort to plan "B". They would probably nail you for having the ability to load 8 if only 5 are allowed for hunting. It would be the same as hunting with a semi-auto shotgun and having the plug removed and loading the first two shells with (cut down) empties and then 2 loaded ones on top of that with one loaded one in the chamber. I would call and have them point you to any "written" regulations pertaining to the magazine capacities for semi-auto rifles when deer hunting.

I know that you are allowed to have all 8 legally for hunting with the Garand in Ontario.

If you do end up going with 8-round clips, we've got plenty in stock. Also, we could custom order you some 5-rounders, but they're even expensive in the US. I know some creative people have just altered 8-round clips to save a couple bucks.

Creedmore sports in the US will ship 5 round en blocs. Just got some a few weeks ago, and before any starts flipping sh!t about how they aren't necessary, check your hunting regs! In some provinces their are mag limits...

Garand clips can be modified by welding or soldering a flat nut for a stop on the inside of the clip itself. We used to do a lot of them that way for shooting on the range where a reload was required.

The NRA in the US used to have a booklet that told you the size of the flat nut to make the 8 shot a 5 shot

Liberty Tree Collector's in the US ship to Canada (google it) and have the 5 rounders in stock at $6.00 each. They don't ding you with the "International Shipping" charges/fees like Gunparts Corp. To make it more worth your while, get 10 or so and sell them to your hunting buddies and divide up the shipping costs.

Try Ellwood Epps first though. They usually have these kind of odds and ends.
