Green Party and hunting.

I have been in discussion with the BC Green Party since the last election. We have been discussing their policies as pertains to hunting. They have asked me to become an active member in their pursuit of cohesive policy towards hunting. This is very interesting and a huge challenge. They are open to suggestion as they have no members of the hunting fraternity involved in their policy making at this time. This is a good opportunity for our community to be heard. I have accepted their invitation but it will be a long distance relationship given where I live. If there are fellow hunters in the lower mainland that can actively attend policy making decisions this may be an avenue for us to get our side of things heard at the committee level. This whole process is at the very beginning stages but is very worthy of our efforts I believe. Let us see where it takes us. Any feedback/suggestions would be appreciated. They are genuinely open to suggestion and we should not pass up this opportunity to be part of the process.

The problem is that hunting is just not part of the political ethos of the Green Party. Sure, they are "progressive" enough to sit and talk with hunters but rest assured their platform will never include any hunting friendly initiatives. It would be like the NDP meeting with big oil to discuss corporate tax breaks.

Lots of sucking and blowing and usually at the same time!

"They are genuinely open to suggestion and we should not pass up this opportunity to be part of the process."
Right up to the point where they are elected, then it becomes a different story, their anti gun bias is evident to anyone that bothered to listen to their childish policies.
I would not help such a party in any way, for many reasons, but the main one being wasting my time with a fringe unelectable party. Let the stupid stay stupid and go to the range instead, it will prove to be a less frustrating and more rewarding venture.

All you say is correct and I wouldn't want to help them in any way. They are just a group of opportunists.
However, virtually every one who votes Green Party, would otherwise have voted NDP! So, maybe it's not a bad idea to hold our noses and cheer them on, as we know they have no hope of going anywhere.

I applaud your effort to make some positive policy decisions about hunting from inside the green party. If nobody speaks up for hunters, the party will continue to be directed by disconnected urbanites with a very skewed views of the wide world outside of the cities.

If the Greens decide hunting is cool and want to make policies for that...ok.

BUT...would they also be cool with us owning Glocks and VZ-58's?! M-14's? Short pump shotguns? "sniper rifles"?!

My guess is that even if the Greens leadership was cool with all of that, 90% of their constituents would just freak right out.

And in other news, Liz May just announced that Georges Laraque will be the Green Party's candidate in Montreal's Bourassa riding.

In a quote from the CBC:

"But in recent years he's also become known for his political activism as a vegan, animal-rights crusader and environmentalist."

Good luck.

I have heard that the Federal Green Party used to be pro-firearm ownership, right up until when that bloated tick Elizabeth May took the helm.

I don't know what their policy on hunting was prior to her arrival.

It would be good to make as many friends as possible within the different parties that will listen.

Federally though, I wouldn't go anywhere near the Liberals, NDP, Bloc, or Greens.

They have all shown their true colours and are no friends of ours.

This reminds me of the old days when Alan Rock did his cross country "consultation" tour with gun owners. I attended one of those meetings and it certainly opened my teenage eyes to how politics works. Politics is all about consultation. Not necessarily taking any of that consultation to heart, but to be able to say "yes, we consulted with ..." in front of the nightly news. When we had the meeting with Mr Rock the two firearm groups were the last groups of about 18 to present. Of course, by that time of night poor Mr Rock was quite tired from all his travel so he didn't have the energy to take any questions from the firearms groups. Salvation Army got a chance to ask questions, Elizabeth Fry got a chance to ask questions, but the YK Shooting Association didn't. But after Mr Rock fled (ask arctic, he was there. Alan Rock fled the room with his local party hack like he had been doused in cold water) and was safely back in Ottawa what did he tell the country? He told everyone that would listen that he had consulted with firearm owners about the proposed regulations. And you know what? He did. Crappy, lip-service, minimalistic consultation, but it was technically consultation.

You always have to ask yourself, what is the end objective?

As Virgil said in Aeneid "Timeo Danaos et dona ferentes" - "I fear the Greeks, even those bearing gifts"

I see no good coming from helping the green party except helping them to lose. . Spent enough time listening to and trying to reason with greenies in property development and realized right off how warped and abstract they actually are. . I believe the energy and resources would gain more ground in joining and helping a right wing party . .

**** them.

I believe in change from within. I understand the basis for the negativity professed here. Remember this is a provincial mandate and not to be confused with the federal one. If things progressed in the right direction I would even consider running on the next ticket. My riding could easily elect a Green candidate as it is a swing riding a rarely votes the same way twice. The Liberals are selling this province out and the NDP have imploded. The BC Green Party is young and this is the time to get in there and steer things is my take. Let is keep the discussion lines open.

The greens are even worse than the ndp. will ban hunting and ALL firearms. Why even bother talking with them.
And you know this how? They have approached me asking for insight from the hunting community. I in turn put it out there for discussion and input from fellow hunters. A closed mind is a waste of a very important resource my friend.

if you get them to let me hunt with my AR15 then i will be happy! not likely as the greens and most supporters are socialists that hate guns and freedoms. FACT!
