So i have my Redding 30-338LM FL dies now so i immediately set about forming some brass. As far as wildcat cartridges go, this is the easiest and most straight forward process i've ever seen. I deprimed the once fired Lapua brass with my standard Lee Die. I then removed the decapping pin from the new redding die, lubed the case necks with burkes gun oil and started ramming them up! I do about 2mm of the neck then rotate a half turn. I do this til it is perfecly formed. They come out looking absolutely perfect. Once i have about fifty done i then lube the inside of the necks with lee sizing lube and run them thru my K&M 30 cal. Expander. Voila! Perfect 30-338 Lapua brass. I'm sure they will crisp up even more after the first firing. Don't be afraid of trying something different!

I am curious about fireforming as well. To my understanding though, when you neck down a case the neck gets thicker. Did you have to turn the necks? Did you try chambering a piece of brass after the expander went through?

A simple neck down is pretty much like that. Nevanevan is right though. It's normal to need to ream or turn the necks.
"...Don't be afraid of..." Even if you have to sell a kidney to buy the .338 Lapua brass? snicker.

I made a dummy round straight out of the press and they chamber beautifully. I also chambered several empty cases as i went and had no issues whatsoever. I also bought another 338 casing for the hornady COAL guage and gave it the same treatment as the cases im loading. Necked it down to 30 cal aswell. So now i can get accurate COALs. What i did do that might negate the brass thickening problem is the trim length is about 20 thou shorter than its supposed to be. I hate trimming cases every time so going shorter allows me about 3-5 reloads before trimming again.

I necked down 30-338 no problem no neck turning or reaming the reloads shot pretty good! I will check neck thickness again see if i see a big difference. I do not have all the fancy dies though like swissinn he will probably have enough ammo this weekend to burn his barrel and turn it a pretty blue color. LOL
