I want a stock 700 with a good stock.

700 LTR seems like a good option with alum rail and short barrel.
Best option for the price on a tactical 223 bolt?

of course I would like a 700 sps tac in aics, but that's more money.

thanks

If you're looking for .223, the shorter LTR would be my choice. Sell the new stock and put the money toward an AICS stock.

I had this exact same dilemma a number of years ago.

I ended up with a 5R milspec. Then later I looked at the LTR again for something lighter and handier. I ended up with a CZ527 Kevlar. Bottom line don't limit your choices. I was looking at the P model and the LTR but ended up with something different in both cases. Look at the other Remington models, CZ, Tika, Savage etc as well. Decide if you want a heavier rifle such as the Police or a lighter model such as the LTR. Then look at all the comparables for that choice.

can the stock on the LTR fit any reg 700 so I can sell it to someone who has a reg 700? How much is the stock Worth?
I would LOVE to have an aics eventually, might keep it for a 300 win mag build though.

Take off LTR stocks go fast at $300. I just bought one, very impressed. Nothing else close to comparing for $900.

EDIT: I'm off my phone so I can actually type now. Before you get a LTR make sure you handle it in the gunstore. Not everybody likes the HS stock on the LTR because they slimmed it down to shed weight. I don't mind it, but some want a fatter stock.

The great thing about the LTR is the HS stock is very solid and the forearm is very stiff. It is superior to a Bell and Carlson and far superior to a Houge or a Choate (I have owned all 3). Because it's only a 20" barrel, it's fluted and the HS stock is slimmed down it is actually light, handy and balanced (7 lbs 9 ounces according to my scale) which is a big bonus. I won't have any issues using it for coyotes, where as my last 26" heavy barreled rig was a pain to lug around and hard to shoot from a normal field position due to the barrel heavy balance.

If you look at the price it's actually more reasonable than any of Savage's offerings. A Savage with an HS stock is minimum $1100. At $900 for a LTR you are looking at a Savage precision carbine for the same money. The Remington has a way better stock and a fluted barrel. A better buy for sure.

Where can you get a LTR for $900?
