ive loaded 100+~ slug and shot shells with HS6 i bought "locally".
standard 1oz loads Lee slugs and american shot.
Remington gold (or whatever) primer and crimped thigh.
standard plastic wad

ive shoot a couple (20-40) and each time on each shotgun ive being getting big powder residue in the barrel.
not just black soot, really little grains of powder from the breech to the muzzle, and the shotshell got some inside too.

why is that? old powder? wet powder?
your opinion on the matter.

no picture sorry.

Unburnt powder left in the barrel or hulls is a sign that the necessary pressure for a clean burn isn't being reached. I've had this happen with Bluedot loads that didn't have a heavy enough payload. Most of the powder burns off but some flakes are left unburnt and are still identifiable as powder in the barrel. It only happens to me with low recoil loads which is why I kinda assume low pressure.

Are you using published load data? What's the source?

What kind of wad and hull?

Not all wads are compatible with all hulls.

Try loading a small batch of slugs using only AA hulls and win pink wads.

that is the only thing i got;
Winchester el cheapo AA and winchester WAA12F1-12.

well maybe my crimp is not good enough.
my press is an old cast iron HoneyBear? and i always get some trouble crimping.
inconsistent pastern too.

i have no more shotgun powder left, ill surely try another brand next time...
well the rounds still shoot great, its just that ive never had any residue before reloading rifle.

thank you for your help.

Sounds like pressures are not high enough, check again and load up a few grains, always possible the wad seating pressure isnt high enough, or the primer isnt hot enough, what are you using for primers? From what im reading lee reccomends around 38 gr hs6, so 8 grains, might be quite low, also powder doesnt like to burn completely under 7800psi
