Hi CGNers :)

I need help regards of safety issue.
I have sporterized Mosin Nagant and bought this way. Question is, it is safe to shoot Mosin after remove ATI rail mount on top?

and there is two holes after remove rail mount.
I can see bolts through the hole, which makes me nervous to shoot without rails locked into it.

Anyone had shoot with iron sight after removing rail mount? Is it safe?

Hmm good question, my very uneducated guess is you should be fine, the bolt lugs are locking horizontally. The holes in the receiver shouldn't affect the locking up of the bolt. I think u just have an added safety feature on your mosin. In an event of pierced primer those holes will went some gas away from your face.
On the other note, I hope you didn't pay more then 50$ for it and if you real concerned about it buy an untouched one..

I think its worth a little more than $50 considering its wearing an ATI synthetic stock and not a sportered wood one. So Id say $65-$75

Remember that the receiver is under tensile stress when firing, wether the screws are there or not should not change the strength of the receiver. Also the bolt lugs lock horizontally, which is away from where the holes were drilled.

As to wether it is safe. The holes drilled in the receiver definitely made it the receiver weaker. It is probably safe, Mosins have huge safety margins. But it's a very personal choice, what might be deemed safe by most people might be seen as dangerous by others.

Thanks for advice. I just wanted know I should keep shoot it with scope or I can have fun with iron sight some time to time.
I paid resonable price I think, don't have to mention I don't have to install bent bolt kit and drill receiver myelf and it comes with bipod.
I might buy original with hex receiver if I run into one but meanwhile I wanted to shoot bolt action rifle so I got this.

Now, Ati rail kit itself can be found around 50$ on us website but I can only find over 90$ plus tx in Canada, Ati stock itself also around 100$
If you guys kinder enough to guide me where I can get those 50$~75$ sporterized mosin or even orginal state mosin then I would appreciate much. If you guys have one and willing to sell it with that price then i'll buy it for sure.

Or you guys just referring to Armerican Youtubers keep saying it's less then 100$ gun? Cause even original, I haven't seen one selling less then 100$ with tx and shipping. And nearest gun store, i have to travell pretty far out and there are chances that they might not carry legit quality mosin that I want to buy.

Seriously send me msg if there is a way to get 75$ or less fully functioning legit rifle that shoots, I'll jump onto it right away.

Thanks for reply.
So theoretically it is possible to shoot eh? Wonder if anyone actually have similar state mosin and shoot one but maybe I should try next time at range.
I gotta find out so I can decide to keep sights or remove them :)

Right now mosin sell for about $170, the minute you drill the rifle it brings it value down and then you change stocks that brings it value down also, Adding $300 worth of parts on a surplus gun doesn't make your gun more valuable it decreases the value of the gun, right now that gun would be worth $50 to me as a little beater gun, But if you like the rifle as it is it still not a bad gun but dont ever exept to get a few hundred for it if you decide to sell in the future, but if you dont mind me asking how much you pay?

Also i picked up a mosin after xmas time for $50, sometimes you get lucky just keep your eyes open for good deal

Exactly what he said. I am not busting your balls or anything, but this is the first lesson you learn with milsurps. As soon as you permanently alter them any way like d&t, sanding the stock, rebluing the rifle etc, on a good day cuts the value of the rifle in half. That is 75$ on a mosin. There are other ways of scoping it. You can get a non permanent scope mount that replaces the rear sight, tradeex has it for around 30$ I think. You can scope if with 4x scout tube and you can even keep the original bolt.
On the other side, if you like the rifle with all the extras on it, keep it shoot it enjoy it.

Uhhhh guys? I feel so weird that so many ppl ranting about how i get this rifle ruined because of scope rail and wish me if I didn't pay more then 50$.

I thought maybe I should practice and see if I like this type of rifle before I care into precision shooting or bench bolt action scoped rifle shooting with cheap ammo.

I'm aware of that there are no collectible value on Mosin but maybe except few and I don't plan to sell this rifle back on EE for PU sniper Mosin price so relax.
I'm gonna shoot it and abuse it and if it break down then I'll discard it. If I need to sell it then I'll sell it with resonable market price.

I already have scout scope setup rifle so I intentionally bought this way. I don't expect it to shoot like remington 700 or other modern sniper rifle but I bought this cause it was cheap rifle with cheap ammo.
If it was Hex or have historical value then I would've bought one at original state but I needed one to abuse so I can improve my skill.

So I asked since it is my only Mosin now so if it's ok to shoot with iron sight after removing rail. And then asked if there is a way to get Mosin for 50$ then I would like to know.
I live around Montreal and 50 min away from nearest gunstore by car and I can't find what I want over there. All online Mosin sale was no near 100$ and if there is one then I would like to know.

So that was all my points. Now seems like every own their mosin more then one or keep in scout scope setup so I'll just wait till get another Mosin if I get one.

Geeez I put pics of sporterized mil surp rifle that might be more like millions of them and people jump on like that,.. no wonder those youtubers ask ppl not to leave any comment about complaining modifying 100$ rifle in begining of their review.

I won't put price I paid here but I bought this rifle with Ati stock, original stock included, ati rail and bent bolt kit, blackhawk bipod, bayonet and other original accesaries, can of surplus ammo and there is no tax and shipping was included. And with all of these it was less then half price of remington700 rifle before tx and shipping, less then half, not half of its price. Geeez maybe I should've go for SFRC mosin deal and leave rifle untouched it.

those who came up with safety issue, I appreciate so much. Those who really concern about me that I might got ripped off by other firearm owner, I'm very touched. Those who just randomly rant about sporterize Mozin, yes I'll use it till it become garbage and it will go to garbage or I'll collect 50$ from someone so thank you very much.

If you are referring to me, i was not ranting and sorry if you though i was, I was just trying to help you out with future purchase with mil surplus guns, it is so easy to get burned or ripped off while buying a surplus gun, but its still a nice gun and if your happy with it and happy what you paid for it thats all that counts, it should shoot good and there built to last.

it should be safe to shoot with the holes there, and if dont like the holes there you can always plug them.
