You can keep only one

wheel guns, wheel guns, everyone loves their wheel guns eh!? If I hadn't sworn to never buy a used wheel gun I might have one by now, but I don't. Another thing that is holding me back is caliber. If I could find a wheel gun in 9mm or .45ACP I might get there sooner, the thought of another caliber to stock is a bit of a pain right now.




.44 mag or .38/357mag (or both) is in my eventual future, no doubt. Why is 9mm not generally offered in a revolver anyhow? Seems just about every other caliber can be had with relative ease in a revolver.

Awesome! Glad there are two of us in the world! That rig looks pretty sweet as well. Does your friend still make rigs? Looking for an Eastwood "Spaghetti" Western Replica - and wonder if he would be interested as it looks like he did a great job with the "Rooster" one you have.

Yes, he's still at it as far as I know. If you can PM me a photo of what you're looking for, I'll see what he has to say. Or, PM me and I'll e-mail you his contact info but like me;), he's ollder than dirt and doesn't have much if anything to do with computers.
 
Easily, my Ruger GP100. That said, the only other centrefire handgun I own is the aforementioned "Norinco dealgun" but between that and my GSG 1911 the Ruger is the only thing I can shoot worth a damn. something about a chunky double action revolver just works for me, and the .357/.38 combo is very versatile.

Hey you gotta put a 30-30 cartridge after the six round in your belt. Wayne was told by an old cowboy of the practice. The idea was to let you know you only had six rounds left. Watch his latter movies and you will see the rifle cartridge in his belt. NIce rig. I have the same belt/holster from Kirkpatrick Leather out of Leredo, TX with an El Patrone residing in it. Moving over to the gentile crowd next year called Cowboy Action. If you play that game I have a 31" Kirkpatrick Belt that I'll let go cheap if anyone has a need for a 31" belt for Cowboy Action.

Thanks for that bit of info:). I wasn't aware of that but I'll have to keep a close watch for that when I get the opportunity to see one of his western movies.
 
SHTF Situation? Glock 17.
Some type of frivolous one-gun-per-person rule? S&W 586 for the grin factor.
 
There are 3 revolvers that offer this now.

Ruger blackhawk convertible and Chiappa Rhino convertible both come with a 9mm cylinder as well as the typical 38spl/357 cylinder.
Charter arms 9mm revolver comes in....9mm!

The Rhino convertible is the only one I haven't seen in Canada yet. The other 2 are just a phone call away...
The 9mm conversion capability is ideal for cheap plinking and "Emergency" scenario's to be able to fire yet another common round, however just a 9mm revolver seems redundant in the face of all the effective auto's out there. The entire point of a revolver to me is to be able to upsize to a magnum round.

To me the logic of having just 1 handgun would require it to do a bit of everything, while remaining as reliable as possible. A multi-caliber revolver is simple, reliable, does not require magazines and has the capability of putting meat on my plate, which seems ideal to me in a SHTF scenario.

In any type of 2 legged confrontation or for any type of real self-defence work I would prefer any of my auto's over it for obvious reasons, but the thought of losing/carrying extra magazines or putting down a deer with a 4-5" barrelled 9mm or even a .45 is not an ideal situation. Thats what comes to my mind when having to chose just 1. That being said, I would probably shed tears having to part with some of my nicer handguns that I cherish. The blackhawk isn't one of my special purdy toys I like to fondle, its a workhorse.

I saw one at a local gun show a couple of years back and couldn't resist it. A 4 5/8" SS Ruger Blackhawk Convertable, 45LC/45ACP. A bit of a novelty was my first thought but I've become quite fond of it:D.



 
I know, I know, I'll cheat a bit on this one... saying I would keep 2... having one with polymer frame and another one all steel! My two top choices would be my Grand Power X-Calibur and my 1911 STI. Both a excellent shooters, they have very sweet triggers and ergos are suiting me perfect!
 
I'm with the OP on this one....my 586 S&W 6" Only difference is my eyes like the 2.5X Extended eye relief Leupold sitting on top.
I know that this is a sacrilege to some, but it makes this revolver into a very deadly short arm.
I can consistently hit a 4L milk jug at 100 meters with the 158 grain speer HP, chased by a nice load of Lil' Gun.
My plinking load is the 125 fmj flat point and 8 grains of old Winchester 473AA. Cleanest load you ever saw.
Makes a ragged hole at 25M.
I also own a M48 S&W 6" with both cylinders. [22LR and 22WMR] Same scope setup.

I would think if you could only TAKE one gun in an SHTF situation you should take the extra 2 seconds to grab a rifle too. If its SHTF, a single handgun isnt going to cut it.

But if you can only KEEP one handgun... thats a different story I guess. I it was SHTF it would be my Norc 1911... if I could only KEEP one gun for fun... it would be my SP-01 Shadowline.

But honestly, if I had to leave my house and survive with just one gun it would NOT be any of my pistols. Thats for sure.

Good point, but going back to the initial post, the primary focus or question of this thread was "If you could only keep one center fire handgun, what would it be and why"?
