First time seller on EE with questions

A potential buyer has contacted me after seeing my ad on EE. I have asked for EMT payment (although I have never used it). He emails and wants my full name, mailing address, secure email address and phone number and a scanned copy of the registration of the restricted firearm. Says he has been burnt before and wants to make sure everything is ok.

Does he need all this or just want it? I dont really want to give out my home address for folks to know where I live and store my firearms, nor do I understand him needing a copy of the registration.

Can someone with experience in this pm me.
 
I personally have no problem with him asking for that info..., the full name thing (as it appears on your PAL) is needed by the CFC... Heck, I'm surprised he didn't ask for specific pics for you to prove you have the firearm... Like crossed butterknives in the pic with the gun...

And, you should ask him for the same info from him, AND he should also want to get on the phone & have a chat.

Your selling and he is buying, you need his full name, rpal and phone number.

You call the cfp and start the transfer, then give him the ref number to complete the transfer. The only thing i would give him is a phone/cell number so you can talk to each other if he has issues he wants to discuss.

HE dosnt need a scanned copy of your reg docs at all, email address maybe if you want to give it to him to send emt but thats about it.

I agree BUT, the buyer is likely trying to ensure the seller has the gun... So that is why he's asking for a copy of the reg cert prior to sending payment...

There is no way on Earth that I would transfer money to a stranger, without having his full, confirmed contact information.
There have been a number of cases reported here, where a buyer sent funds by EMT and is wondering where the gun is - and is unable to make contact with the "seller", not having a clue who the "seller" is.
 
For you to transfer and send him the firearm, you will require all his personal information. You expect him to give you several hundred dollars to start the process. He is entitled to have your personal information. I have had purchasers send me an EMT with only my email address. I have begun to send them my info at that point with a note saying they should know where they are sending their money.

The big thing is just jump on the phone with him, there is going to be a transaction and both parties should feel safe
 
The fact you don't want to give him your address makes no sense. If that made sense then he wouldn't give you his address either so that you know he now has a firearm. Has to be certain amount of trust with this as he has to give you the money and let you know where the firearm will be sent and kept.
 
Pick up the phone and talk to each other. I purchased a handgun from a member that had a 1 trader rating and only 1 post. I was nervous until I talked to him for 15 minutes. You can learn a lot from a phone call.

COD is great, I don't know more people don't like using it. Especially great for new sellers with low/zero trader rating.

I was trying to purchase an optic from someone last week on EE and offered to use COD. He didn't want to do that, says he doesn't want to risk losing a $700 optic (I have an excellent trader rating - he has ZERO), yet he wanted ME to send EMT and take all the risk. screw that, some people just don't think with their brains.

COD is fine. If it's a restricted purchase and the seller has a low trader rating, I ask them to initiate the transfer first, and once the transfer is complete I will send the EMT.

Can someone give me an example of how can a buyer run away without paying in a COD transaction? I thought Canada Post will collect the payment for the seller before handing the item??

I tried to do the COD thing with a part for a baler and the Post office said I couldn't do that. I eneded up sending the part and the guy mailed me a check. The first check was made out wrong so he had to send me a new one so a month later finally got this all done.
 
So you get the cash through canadapost after the buyer pays them? And what if buyer doesn't pay? It gets shipped back to you for free?

yup canada post sends you the money (or you pick it up). I'm not sure as I never sold something using COD, but I have purchased items using COD. If buyer doesn't pay, you get the package back but I'm not sure if you get charged - i'm guessing the seller would get charged for shipping back to you.

Either way, the biggest risk is that the buyer doesn't pick up the package and you pay additional shipping charges. still better than sending an EMT to a complete stranger and hoping for the best.
 
As a Buyer or a seller , I always provide my email address , address , telephone no . and all the info on the PAL ( as required by the law ) and I expect the same in return .

I always like to speak to the other person on their home phone but not always necessary .

I always send a Bank Draft by Express post with signature then wait for my purchase to arrive . A tracking number is always nice with fire arms , If I am paying for the shipping I pay the extra for the tracking and fast time delivery .

Remember ,,you must have a signature upon delivery , Canada post or who ever delivers .

No Personal checks , at any time .

Sure It costs me a few more dollars for the bank draft and the express post but the seller is assured of his money and I know who received it and were it was deposited .

So I feel safer , oh sure it takes longer but who cares if everyone is happy in the end .

If everyone would follow these simple steps , there would be far fewer problems .

It's actually not possible to send a parcel via Canada Post WITHOUT a track number, all have it. Obviously there is no "extra" charge for the track number.
