It' still JUST a handgun cartridge, as Dennis said......You'd be better off with a 170 gn 30-30 on game.

I fully agree if its a back up for a gun that malfunctions on a hunt or something, but I see these as perfect carry guns while in the bush. For example you shoot a moose and take a couple loads to camp before dark, next day you go back and take your ranch hand instead of packing a full rifle since chances are your not gonna need a gun but you never know :). Maybe your salmon fishing alone and would like handgun for back up but since our goverment tyrants won't let us you throw your Ranch Hand in your pack/holster and voila you got a light little 44mag "just in case".

That's why I got a hard on for one, protection. Because my Gov't wont let me carry a sidearm like a free man, and sometimes a full rifle just gets in the way.

A 45-70 revolver would be an ideal backup sidearm to me, too bad we can't carry handguns in places where we need them......

My exact point bud. These things are like "Canadian Handguns" :) Nothing in North America that hasn't been killed by a 44mag. Better cartridges? Yes. Work for a variety of defence/survival situations? Absolutely.

The 180 pounds buck i shot with my 44 mag hand rifle, at 75 metres just fell like a ton of brick, 270 gr at 1750 fps is quite a thumper... JP.
