.30 carbine pistols.... What's the skinny on them?

I see Canada ammo is selling some 30 carbine revolvers.

Anyone tried that caliber? Any fun to shoot? Accuracy? Worthwhile?

i have a ton of 30 carbine for my m-1, so I'd be ready to go in that department.

I have a Ruger Blackhawk and mine works very well and is quite accurate as well. Lots of noise and not much recoil. I like mine.

I have a Blackhawk also. It's as noisy as a comped super, wouldn't dream of shooting without muffs. Accuracy is good, as far as box stock blackhawks go.

Buy a tokarev and the case of ammo deal....cheaper and less loading

As others have said, LOUD, huge fireball, virtually no recoil. Mines decently accurate. It has a long hammer drop, not the best arrangement for bulls-eye shooting. Plenty fine for the range.
Also, the grips are a tad on the smaller side. Not too bad for me, but if you have sausage fingers you might not like them.

There was also a semi auto chambered in 30 a while back. Little Automag if I recollect correctly. I prefer the Blackhawk. But really, unless you have a lot of surplus ammo, it's not all that useful. - dan

The .30 Carbine handguns were brought to market a number of years ago when there was large amounts
of cheap, surplus ammo . But they were never really a success because they had some inherant flaws.
As noted above, noisey and lots of muzzle flash, so so accuracy . A half decent plinker while
the ammo was dirt cheap.

Bottleneck cartridges in a revolver have never worked out. Biggest problem was case set-back on firing.

1. Several people on here have.
2. Maybe I (we) didn't express the fun factor enough. They produce shock and awe with virtually no recoil. Shoot all afternoon with no pain. You say you have a ton of 30 carbine for you M1, so why not give it a companion?
3. Accuracy......it's not like I'm missing the entire berm. No, I can't cover six with a dime at 25m, but I get them all on the target. How accurate do you want/need?
4. I think so.

The 30 Blackhawk is one of those odd ducks that get noticed at the range. You pull out a revolver and most people barely give it a second look. One cylinder later and people come wandering over, wondering WTF you're shooting .
