...but my eyesight is bad, so it'll have to be scoped.

what would you all recommend? I think the 92/94 actions are out, being they're top eject and there are very few long eye relief scopes out there now-a-days (educate me if I'm mistaken), which leaves me with Marlin.

of course, I wish to be edjucated. caliber isn't so important...but I would like to drop elk/moose within 150 yards.

thanks! :)

I have a Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 1.75x - 5x 32mm, with DOA reticle, on my BLR Model 81 - pretty reasonable for a decent scope (around $250.00) - and I've had NO issues with it.

Mine's a .308 and it will absolutely drop a moose at 150.:)

You can always get a later model 94AE (angle eject) yoo can mount a scope right over the bolt because it ejects to the side. caliber limitations to 30/30 ,307 or 356. Marlin in 30/30 35 rem 444 rem or 45/70. Savage 99 in 25-300, 243, 300 savage, 308, 284, 358 amd if lucky 7mm08. BLR win model 88 etc the list goes on. It is just a matter of being patient and knowing what you want. Good luck

I have 2 x BLR 81s with the barrel band and straight stock.
Both are take-down models.
One in 308 Win and the other in 450 Marlin.
Smoothest and most accurate leverguns I ever held in my hands.
All the new BLRs and new (post 2010) Winchester firearms are made by the same company, Miroku of Japan.

I have 2 BLR 81 LW's - one in 358 Win and 1 in 450 Marlin - i like them both -they have very smooth actions and i like mags too ! I also have a Marlin 1895G in 45-70 - its a Kool rifle but i like the BLR's nore ! JMO RJ

I have a stainless Guide Gun.
It was rough NIB.
That figures because it is a Remlin but I stripped it apart and carefully honed and polished the machining burrs off every component over the course of a week.
I got the Happy Trigger and extractor kit from Wild West Guns (Brownells) and the spring kit and installed them.
Mounted a Leupold "Rifleman" 2-7x32mm scope on it with Leupold QD rings.
Now it is as slick as eels snot and I can pop the scope off and go to iron sights in the thick stuff if necessary and remount the scope with perfect return to zero accuracy.
It has a crisp trigger with a 3 pound pull which is much better than the triggers on my BLRs.
The 1895GS is the equal of the BLR but only after a weeks work and third party parts were installed.
It's easy to do the work yourself and it really improves the gun.
The difference is like night and day.
