heres my 6.5x55 build
when i first bought the rifle it was a long action 243 [always had feeding issues] it started life as a 25,06 sendero
so Neil Mckillop in the UK supplied a pac-nor match barrel 5 groove and chambered it in 6.5x55
PES T12 mod, jewell trigger, rem 700 LA,bushnell 6500 elite and i think a HS precision stock
havent shot a deer with it yet been doing load development ,have tried H4350 and N160 geting sub 1/4in groups at 100yds with the N160 and nosler bt

That's pretty nice, and the fact that its a shooter doesn't hurt either. But what bugs me is that despite the draconian gun laws in the UK you can own a rifle with a can . . . which I assume isn't a mock up.

I originally bought a model 700 "Classic" chambered in 6.5x55.
Loved it!! Shot it a lot, eventually washed out the throat. [2500 +- rounds]
Fitted it with a Pac-Nor 5 groove just like yours, again in 6.5x55.
This rifle is now on it's 3rd barrel, a Shilen 1-8 twist Super match grade.
I believe the action has now seen about 6K rounds.
It is one of my favorite rifles/chamberings, and has accounted for deer, Black Bear and moose.
Just a suggestion....find some Lapua brass for that Swede, it's the best available.
Regards, Dave.

hi Boomer no it isnt a mock up i have a can/mod on all my rifles 22lr/22.250/6.5x55 and there all caliber specific , in the UK you have to request one to be put on your firearm cert as the UK police class these as a firearm in there own right
even tho its just a tube with some baffles in there,i do alot of my shooting close to footpaths, houses, farms and also the UK forestry commission recommend the use of one [noise wise]

hi Eagleye ide like to say thanks for the info you gave me via pm on bullet choice ect,yes using lapua brass, nead to make a load up for the red deer was thinking 140/160g and want to do a load for the 140 Amax for paper punching out to 1000yds

Not sure how far you are shooting deer but if it's 200m and less I would highly recommend the lapua mega 155gr bullet. I shoot mine right at 2525fps from my tikka 6.5x55.

thanks Kman300 ,yes the reds that i will be stalking will be taken at or under 200yds

Nice! I always figured the weight of the can would affect groups, guess not!

the weight of the can/mod does i think effect the the overall balance of many rifles ,but this rifle is a bit of a lump when you pick it up but when in both hands
its very well balanced, also a mod will reduce FELT recoil and in my experience reduce the shot group size marginally

Beautiful and in my favourite caliber. So glad it's shooting well for you. I have had great luck with Accubonds in my other hunting calibers and think I may give them a go this Fall in my swede. They come in 130g in .264 which seems like a great compromise in both weight and versatility. If I find a load that works I'll email you. I'm actually looking at buying my third swede, a CZ 550 FS. I just have to find one in Canada.

Oh and save a few dollars first!!!

You have started an awesome thread ukrem !
Thank - you for sharing all the details and the excellent pictures.
My 6.5 X 55 shot really well with any 140 gr. bullet over H1000 powder..

Have you played with the 85 grain Sierra HP's? I have had good success over CFE223 and H4350 in my Tikka. Best group was under 1" at 300 yards. Not any good for big game but nice to shoot and play with.

no i havent tried the 85g,but thats a very good grouping at that distance, when i start paper punching i intend to use the 140g Amax,my 120 nosler load will only be used on roe and muntjac deer and maybe the odd fox,the ground that i shoot on there is farms and footpaths everywere and the ground is littered with large flints so this is why i chose the bt and not a bonded bullet as i dont want a ricochet

the deer is a muntjac buck [fully grown ] and yes i think the best eating UK deer ,wheel weights in the UK are mainly a composite now, its a job to get pure lead now
