Hey team,

So im interested in a quality scope mount for a Mosin Nagant 91/30, as well as a bent handle bolt body. Basically im looking for something similar to the Rock Solid Industries Mount and Handle seen here: http://www.rocksolidind.com/mosin-nagant/mosin-nagant-hex-receiver-scope-mount-bolt-body-combo.html

The Only issue is that they do not ship or sell outside of canada, so I think im SOL. Ebay and Amazon turned up zilch. I was hoping that the readers of this forum know of another canadian friendly option that will give the same quality of parts. Im not interested in a scout style forward mount, I want it over the receiver. ANd I have to get the bent handle to accomodate this, as you know the standard mosin handle goes straight up when operating the action.

Thanks!

Most traditionalists will say it better to make a clone or reproduction instead of a bubba.

There are many repo PE/PEM sniper mounts on eBay (fresh_tea). Little pricy, but worth it IMHO.
I just wished that a local Canadian company would grow the testicular fortitude to make a mount for all these mil-surp's Mosin's to be enjoyed with modern day optics.

It can be done but are you going to put a $700 scope/mount on a $150 rifle with a 12lb trigger, a questionable bore & a straight stock? Even if you get the rifle ironed out, it may not shoot any better unless you handload. My advice, learn to shoot with irons & save your cash.

thats the beauty of a $200 rifle. You can leave it as is and who cares... or you can spend a bit of money on it and get a quality shooter.

For myself, I would be looking at a $300 range half decent scope, and after market stock, most likley the archangel model. So for a few hundred I could work it into a half decent target rifle... as Long as i can find a proper scope mount that is!

$300 for a scope & the stock? I thought those stocks were going to sell for $200 on their own? Here is my cost breakdown; scope $300 (decent but not high end), mount $100, bolt $80 (min), stock $200, rifle $200 & finally paying a smith to D&T $100. Total aprox $980. If you use a cheapo scope, don't count on hitting anything twice in a row. That leaves you to deal with trigger. After all that, it still may not shoot better than it does now & you are out $800. Suthrepeg did something similar to what you proposing to a russian m44 5yrs ago. He spent $500 on a $179 rifle & ended up getting $150 for it less than a year later. Oddly enough, if he left it alone he could have sold that unmolested m44 for $450 now. I am sure he had fun but it shot worse.

sorry i guess i need to work on my grammer haha. I meant $300ish for the scope.

again, im not dead set on doing this, I was just curious as to wether or not the parts were available in canada so I could price it out. I still havnt found anything worthwhile so I think you are right when you say I might be better off going with the PU setup... only issue with that is the size of the mount rings, if I ever wanted to change the scope.

I suppose I could solve the issue by just getting one of the forward scope mounts and a scope with a longer eye relief.

He is using it on a 91/30 sniper, they came with bent bolts.

Boss351, how do you find the eye relief with that set up?

Eye relief is great with the scope im using so most should be fine , just need to rig up a cheek rest of some sort without messing up my stock, maybe duct tape and foam lol.. Im just shocked how good the rifle shoots with modern optics , with the right load it gives my R700 target rifle a run for its money !

If you want to mount a scope I'd stick with the original style PE or PU style. There are many Replica scopes and mounts available if you dont want to go with an original.

I'm using the cheek rest from Hical and I think it's pretty sweet.
