Lightest ARs out of the box....couldn't find anything with a search.

I just finished a light weight build, with a 14.5" DD lightweight barrel (.625" gas block) and a Noveske NSR. Will have to put it on a scale and see how she came out.

"...stay away from pencil barrels..." The barrel is where most of the weight comes from. It's optimum length would be determined by the longest shot needed in a 3 gun shoot. Velocity being important.

I can see where we can go back and forth with weight and balance. The adage "ounces are pounds" when carrying something for a full patrol comes to mind, but for competition I'd be willing to add a few ounces for balance and "better performance". Was just just testing the waters to see what folks have and know about a good starting point.

Anyone have the I knowledge, know how and capability for a carbon fibre Tavor? Hahha one can dream.

I'm leaning towards a 10-12 inch PWS. Some nice add-ons with the magpul gear you get with it. Anyone know if hand rails can be added easily? Just asking because of the piston set-up.

Might want to look at this for a lighter weight lower. Not sure if available in Canada however.

If the gun is for competition, how will saving half a pound or so improve times? Being able to run faster? Wouldn't the lower velocity of the short barrel potentially reduce the power factor enough you might need to have a heavier bullet or something? Perhaps that would slow down follow up shots?

I could be way off base, just learning here.

I haven't seen any of the 2013 episodes, but according to the article he switched to a 10 inch SBR and has won the last 3 competitions in a row if I'm not mistaken. Because of this, all the 3Gun buzz in the pro series is about going shorter, lighter and faster.

Just read the article, somewhat interesting but not overly conclusive. Be interesting to see what rifle he takes to the longer matches like Ironman.

I have found a nice 12.5 Noveske build to go with. Remember I am in Ontario so the chance of "long range" is slim to none. All I need is an optic and The gun is good to go. Me on the other hand, needs a few rounds to get the ring rust off. I like the Eotech as I'm used to it, but have also looked at the aimpoint.

The wife gave her blessings and I took the plunge. Of course she says she has to break it in with me.
Thanks folks for the input.

I had a Bushmaster Carbon 15 Type 97 rifle at one time. The older one, not compatible with AR-15 external parts. That one was 4.2 pounds with no sights and was a flat-top.
