Torn between using my cow elk draw or not this year, i have been getting more pictures of bulls than cows on my trail cam.

I got 972 pics in 10 days, about ten pic's have 5 legal bulls in one picture, a few very large bull pics 3 different very large bulls.

Torn between letting a good cow elk draw go to waste or shooting a bull.

All I got to say is that your a Lucky SOB lol

Can you still purchase a general elk licence seeing as how you were successful in an antlerless draw? I thought the system would reject the request it you attempted, but I could be wrong.

If you have never shot a big bull elk, Then I would hold out for the bull.
However, If you have already been successful taking a decent bull,
I would use the cow draw. They are always very good eating.
JMHO, Eagleye.

IIRC, you can, once drawn, buy either, if you wish. But you can only have one or the other, and if drawn, it's back to pri zero in the pool.

Your not wrong.
OP, see page 5 of the Alberta draw book, you will not be able to purchase a general elk licence if you have been drawn for antlerless elk.
Looks like you will be eating tasty cow elk steaks this coming fall.

Found out they did change it so i could not buy a bull tag, if it would have been a few years ago i could have picked.

oh well the bulls will be bigger next year!

How about this... I'll come down south and you can blind fold me and take me out to your elk spot. Then You can shoot a nice tender cow and I'll shoot one of those big bulls. I'll give you the antlers and call it square.

The system was changed because people were drawing tags, which prevented other people from drawing those tags, and then not using them. I totally support the change.

I don't particularily mind that i can't change from a cow to a bull tag, it just is ironic that i get drawn on a year with so many bulls to cows ratio.

I haven't seen a year where bull numbers are almost equal to cows in the area i hunt, and there is a lot of both. I almost think they are giving out to many cow tags.

Checked the trail cams again today and in the past three days got another 294 pic's, one of my other cams caught a pick of a tiny whitetail buck that was ripped to shreds by some type of predator, have some very big yotes in the area.

Guess i'll get to work out the 7mm a bit before hunting season
