I just added 2 used lee pro 1000 presses to my collection, and I bought the 3 die set for .44 and also for .223
I set one up for 44 magnum no problem, it sits next to my Lee pro 1000 set up for 9mm and my other Lee pro 1000 set up for .45acp.

Then I decide to start setting up the 4th press to do just .223 and the first die gets set up no problem, same as all the other presses for the most part......then thats it, no info on how to setup the next die (like my pistol dies got setup) to bell the case mouth and load the charge. I was really hoping to set it up and use it like I use my other ones for pistol ammo but I'm just not getting it, it almost seems like I dont have the right parts in this die set. And of course the 3rd and final step would be seating the bullet (like on my pistol presses) but it just doesnt seem anything like the progressive system I want with the 3 dies provided.

Any help in setting this machine up to run like pistol reloading would be greatly appreciated. I* searched here, and of course on youtube and saw 1 video of a guy running this press on .223 but it didnt show how the powder measure was set up and he didnt explain anything about the actual setup.

you will need to get a rifle charging die that does not come in the 3 die kit
the crimp dies will need to be set up in a single stage press if you want them crimped
what he said. I use the loadmaster in the following way:
1- deprime + resize
2-prime (doesnt work well..., so what really happens is I process all brass on a single stage and then I load resied and primed cases for step 3). getting a dillon soon...
3-powder with rifle charging die and deluxe measure.
4-bullet
5-crimp

Okay, so I called my local reloading supply guy and he has the rifle charging die, and case lube so i'll get that stuff this week.

Since I have several extra turrets for the top of my presses, couple I run the press as per the standard method,
#1 resize and de-prime
#2 bell the case mouth and charge with powder
#3 seat the bullet

AND THEN, put in another turret and crimp in position #1 if its needed?

Also, with the case lube, does it need to be cleaned off the bullets after they are loaded and if so, will tumbling them do the job or do I need to get something else for cleaning them?

Thanks.

Easiest way to do cartridges that require 4 dies is to deprive first on a single stage, clean and then hand prime... The toss the in the case feeders and just go charging die-bullet seater-crimp ... And for some pistol calibers do the same but go expand/powder-bullet seat- then crimp.

The pro 1000 is a strange beast but when you understand it you can get a lot done
