Picked this up on impulse yesterday. Need to file down the front sight a bit it is all the way down and still a little off... other then that great rifle !

I have always wanted one they are beautiful rifles ! Will be a good hunting rifle ! Should I put an optic on it ? Any one have good optics for this ?

very nice rifle, there a blast to shoot, i own 3 right now and i want more lol but i personalty wouldn't put a scope on it, what year is it?

Why would you need to file anything? The front sight post is threaded. As far as optics go, forget it. Every attempt at mounting optics on an svt that didn't involve welding has failed to produce better groups than open sights.

We do have SVT 40 specific sight tool in stock

Please don't do any modifications, if you shoot surplus ammo with each new batch the point of impact will change. Russian, checz, bulgarian or chinese ammo all shoot differently. When you file your sights and after you are done with one crate you will find out that new crate shoot higher, what will you do then? Your distance to target play big role as well. Shoot few rounds, find where they hit, then adjust your aim accordingly in order to hit your target and that's it. If soldiers were adjusting their sights in the battle each time they get new crate of ammo and after each dislocation they would have screw up sights to the point that rifle will not hit anything at all.
Sights are there just for reference for first few shots then aim higher or lower depending on impact of your bullets.
Happy shooting and keep it original.

On one of mine it shoots low with the Chinese surplus I have. Input the rear sight to 300 and its dead on at 100. Much easier than filing. I put white crayon on the 300 to remember that's for 100 meters then I just slide it to 400 for 200 meters etc

haha those options do sound like less work ! Hasent been filed yet so I don't think I will... Ill try and blast through this spam can first ! I will try different distances also.

I had to stop looking at your beautiful rifle ,, my credit card was tearing a hole in my jeans to get out ..
