The short: My XCR-L 223 has an issue. The bolt sticks after the last round in a magazine is fired. It take significant force to release the bolt with the charging handle. Can anyone help?

The long: I bought a used XCR on Thursday from a good fellow CRN'r. Looked to be in great shape with about 2k rounds fired. He stated to me that it had experienced 0 issues FTF/FTE while he owned it. Now the rifle is on its second bolt due to an exploding round. The previous owner fired 500 rounds with the new bolt with no problem. On Saturday I took her out and shot her. The first mag went well, the second stuck. It seems to jam behind the bolt stop and you really have to pull back on the charging handle an it feels like in kinda grinds or unhooks the bolt from something in the rear of the rifle. I have looked it over and it doesn't seem to have any unusual wear on it. I tried 2 different mags, 2 different manufacturers of ammo and all the gas settings it happened over and over.

Please ladies and Gents give me some good insight, and if this issue has been discussed I missed it please feel free to point me in the right direction

Thanks!!!!

I had this problem develop after ~1600 rounds. Basically, you need a new bolt. I believe RA has crappy QA and some of their bolts like ours, weren't made to spec, and hence wear out prematurely.

Sounds to me like someone sold you a broken gun bro, but it would not be the first time I bought or heard of someone buying a gun to have it break immediately upon them shooting it, heck I bought a p220 and had the hammer reset srpring break before I got it to the range.....Normally for an XCR issue I would say contact Wolverine, but with the rifles history who knows what they will say...

I would pull the barrel and reseat it.

Also Pull the bolt and look for unusual wear.

What is your gas setting? Dial it up a notch and see it helps, some ammo needs a lot of force to extract, I had a batch of surplus ammo that was notoriously bad with cases jamming up, so I crank my setting up to 4 when shoot that batch of ammo.

I used all the gas settings, but FTE wasn't my problem, while that did happen it stopped after I selected a different setting. My bolt gets caught in the rear position.

What mags where you using?? Does the bolt stick only on empty mag?? Is the bolt hold open device a 2 piece unit or the updated 1 piece unit?? I bet the bolt hold open device is riding the back of the follower not the top face, the follower is tilting forward allowing the tab on the bolt catch to slip off, causing the follower and bolt catch to bind on the bolt. Either the mags are the issue or the bolt hold open device is the issue. Where you using lar 10 rounders??

PO isnt a ####, he offered to exchange it back. Just wanna figure out whats happening

try giving your bolt a good inspection, mine has some damage in a strange spot, I have no idea what caused this but i was told by wolverine that they had a shipment with out of spec bolts. Had exact same problem as you, my buffer was/is still in good shape

Thanks man. I did send an email to wolverines to see what they say.

Have you taken apart the gun yet??????

That's something you should do before posting so you'll have more information for people on here to help with.

This is exactly what happened to me. The bolt wore at that corner, and caused it to bind on the last shot. The where is identical. It sucks, but you need a new bolt. Maybe you'll be able to get one threw warrenty.
