Where can you find HBWC in .38 Special or .357 in Ontario??

Im looking to get my girlfriend and myself into shooting PPC and was hoping that I could reduce costs by reloading ammunition. I have grown up around the reloading process and feel confident in my skills to do so safely. After researching presses and components it seems the one sticking point is finding affordable quality bullets. If anyone could direct me to some suppliers I would be very grateful. Otherwise it seems our hopes will be dashed as far as competing in centerfire and will most likely be forced to shoot bullseye in rimfire or 10m air events (for which there is no local competition). Thanks you.

If you get shooting PPC somewhere, generally the group that you are shooting with will make a group buy once a year and get any quantity of boolits you want at the best possible price. Just get shooting and talk to the other shooters. They will be only too glad to help you out. Where are you planning on shooting?

Stringer. Add your location to your profile so we know where you are. It is a big country and bullets (heavy) are best purchased locally. I use solid 158 Semi wadcutters in PPC. They chamber faster. I also load solid 148 wadcutters. The hollow base are more expensive and for PPC I don't see an advantage. I only use HBWC for bullseye.

We will be shooting mostly at the General Gun and Supply in our hometown of Windsor with the odd trip down to Chatham Kent Cloverleaf Club and possibly Rondeau. It seems like Lawry's is about the only place to get bullets reasonably close. Yes I'm familiar with club buys but I will probably purchase enough to reload 3-5000 at the onset so that we don't have to scrounge for ammo for the first season.

I have been using hardcast bullets from Bullet Barn, but they are in BC, and shipping to Ontario would likely be pretty high. A large order might be worth it. I have used the 158 semi wadcutters and the 148 wadcutters with good success. I weighed a few of them, and the weights seem pretty consistent. I have ordered through Rusty Wood, a site supporter here, and direct from manufacturer.

find someone who stocks campro, they can get or will have 148gr plated hbwc. People I have sold them to like them

Note that Berry's advises that their plated 148 gr. HBWC bullets should be fired at no less than 800 fps to work properly. I am guessing that at velocities less than that the bullets will not obturate in the bore, giving poor accuracy.

Unfortunately most classic 148 gr. wadcutter loads (e.g. 2.8 gr. of Bullseye) don't generate those velocities. To be honest I've used commercial HBWC bullets and home cast DEWC bullets and have not noticed any real difference in accuracy. Maybe if I was an Olympic level shooter with a $4000 target pistol the HBWC might give me higher scores but for the average guy with an average gun I really don't think the difference will be obvious.

but they look so cool! and you can flip them for a mean hollow point!

I'm currently using speers 148 hbwc over 2.6 of bullseye. No idea about shipping costs to your location but I buy from Henry @ Budget Shooter Supply--(site sponsor at top of page)

I used the plated hbwc and I went back to plain old lead, I did notice a difference in accuracy, and I was only shooting at a sharpshooter level.

BTW, I belong to Abbotsford fish and game and we are hosting the BC provincial and the National PPC championships the end of next month (info available on the CPCA site). Hope to see all you PPC shooters there!

"...in .38 Special or .357..." You looking for ammo or bullets? You won't find .357 loaded with HBWC's. And don't load 'em to .357 velocities if you are reloading. Too fast and it'll cause leading in the barrel. You can load .357 brass to .38 velocities though. Good thing to do if you're shooting .38's out of a .357. Makes the lube gunk ring in the chambers not happen.
As mentioned, where you are is important. Shipping costs for bullets will give you a stroke. Look into Wolf bullets. He's in Kingston, I think. Regular WC's will do in a pinch too. Certainly not quite as accurate as an HBWC though.
