So I think the M&P will soon become my first handgun.
I am leaning towards 9mm for the cost savings as well there doesn't seem to be much ballistic advantage to go up to the .40. One benefit to going with the .40 is the interchangeable 9mm barrel and mag, effectively making it two guns... but again, there isn't much advantage between 9 and .40

Should I get the range kit, basic model, vtac, pro (for what its worth I would rather mod a stock gun)?
Also does the range kit have the thumb safety delete and mag safety delete, if so that seems to be the best?

kit is a basic model with one more mag, holster and uplula loader.
Pro is 5" barrel/slide, apparently match barrel, and better trigger (haven't tried the pro)
vtac, sounds likea gimmick to me unless you need any of those tac thingies.

if you are planning on modding, I would go PRO just to see what's all the hype about.

I hear the pro has the upgraded trigger but its not as good as the apex??

Can anyone confirm that S&W recently upgraded the triggers on all new M&Ps?
 
They upgraded the sear and the sear block, as far as I know the enhanced sear reset by APEX will not fit in the new sear block.
I just sold an MP9 FS and the sear block was different.

So yes, they did changed their triggers for 2013 made MPs along with the frames.
There has been some recent discussions on this forum about the different parts and sears with photos and everything... The search function is your friend.
 
I am new to firearms, I started off with the 9mm range kit, and just added a M&P9 pro core and just bought a deltapoint from the US (25% cheaper than here) but will have it in 3 weeks. But, the range kit is very good value, you can't go wrong with it.
 
I really enjoy mine. I liked being able to install a backstrap that fits my hand. I don't mind the trigger, either. I'm used to it. so far, I've fired Wolf, Blazer & american Eagle through it, probably over 2,000 rounds, and no issues at all.

The Pro have a much better trigger than the 4.25" bbl version. The range kit offer the best value out there. A mag alone is $50 and the uplula is around $30. You can always sell the holster unless your range allow to use it. Irungun.ca have the CORE edition on sale for $699, either 4.25" or 5" version.

Why wouldn't you be able to use a holster? - that's just crazy.
 
I've had both the standard, and pro in 9mm. The range kit is a fantastic value. No doubt about that. But the pro is absolutely worth the extra money if you can spare the coin.
 
My choice was 9mm range kit. Like the idea of .40 but $8 more per box makes 9mm much more appealing.
Like everyone says: pistol, 3 mags, case, blade tech holster and mag pouch, uplula mag loader. Figure out the cost per piece on its own.

In looking at the IRunGuns site, I've not been surprised by the fact prices are in US dollars. However, since our dollar is only a few cents off, the difference doesn't amount to much. For me, it came to roughly $20 on an almost $500US purchase.

Some clubs are just anal like that and do things like disallowing holster use unless a paying member of a holster using discipline such as IPSC. Even then, further restrictions apply, such as permitting the unboxing and re boxing of restricteds at the firing line only...so bring your case up to the firing line and forget about the rear table and or fumble zone.
