Hands on with the FAMAE 542

What do the Chileans use for their DMR rifle or sniper rifle??

That would be the FAMAE FD-200

I get it, but in firearms everything is a compromise, if you want absolute reliability then ad a piston, the minute you do, you give up accuracy. If you want absolute accuracy then go to a single shot but en you loose the ability to have a fast follow up shot. If you want both, compromise. These rifles have an intended purpose and for said intended purpose they really are very hard to beat. As they are exceptional rifles.

'Compromise'... Yes you make some very good points, dizzy, I Get ya. It is a beauty! i'd like a 542 in green for Christmas.

I think the scope/cheek weld issue could be resolved with:
a) a slight vertical offset built into the future AR butt stock conversion
and
b) an AR stock with adjustable comb. Magpul PRS?

That is neat looking.

So.... Anyone shot the 542 lately? I need to live vicariously through others.

Ben

check out the first post in this thread and you will find the answer to your question

Yes I saw that vid. I was hoping someone else had shot it and was willing to share their experience.

Maybe I'll have to make the trip to Calgary and have a go at it.

Question stands - anyone other than TV shot this lately? Curious about hands on opinions of fit and finish and that sort of thing.

Just dropped in and had a look at the 542 & 540... I must have the 542! The 542 feels much smaller and lighter than I expected, shoulders very comfortably and points well. Picked up a couple of cases of 7.62x51mm for when I get one.

One of the rare folding stocks I actually like is the one on the Swiss Arms PE90. Anyway to attach those to these rifles?

Also anyone else think this rifle being the closest to an unmodified Sig 54X model around pretty much screws us for our PE90 rifles? With this around they can use this as the true 54X template to further their argument that the PE90 is a 55X not a 54x. That sinking feeling just got even worse.

Spoke to someone at calgary shooting centre and the only thing that is interchangeable between the Swiss arms and the famae 540 is the grip and the b&t scope rail.

Dont worry everything will be fine, nothing is going to happen to the Swiss.

Why would this make things worse? All they would need to do is compare a PE90/SG550 to a Canadian Classic Green. If they are identical there is a problem. If they are different it really does not matter what a CG is as long as it is not a variant of a PE90/SG550.

Because if the Chillean licenced version is different than even the last of the Sig 54X model and they were to then look at the Famae/Chillean version then it would assist them in making said case. Let me put it this way. I don't see it helping any.

I sure hope you're right. I really like my PE90.
