$400 Chinese copy of the VZ58 (CZ858, ETC.)

The Czech military, the Slovacs, as well as some Yugoslavs. The Czechs were allowed to keep them rather than adopt AK's due to the quality of the design, etc.

Which wars have the Czechs and Slovaks fought in recently? I'm talking guys getting in gunfights, not BS missions like guarding PRTs in safe AOs or running the metal detector at KAF.

when the type 81 gets here the vz58 rifle will be a joke. lots of countries are adopting it. last i checked vz58's are worth half of what an ak is usually in most places.

I try not to buy anything that is made in china, don't sponsor communism. Why would anybody buy cheap crap just to say that they have it before it falls apart in 6 months if that. Support made in Canada or U.S.A.

I thought you said you do not support communism?

No denial, I'm afraid you're considering the extreme minority, as there are 1.35 billion people in China, almost all are very poor. There are also millions of wealthy Chinese, but that is a tiny fraction of the population. The average net worth in China is $11,267 (PPP), Canada nationwide is $90,000 PPP but in Alberta or Vancouver, average household net worth is just under $600,000 (cut it by 2 or 3 for PPP). :)

Note that Vancouver is nicknamed Hong Couver for a reason. More people from Hong Kong there then people from Canada. Also, At least from when I was in Hong Kong, don't know about Mainland China, there are no taxes in Hong Kong and prices were really cheap.

Cheaper? God damn. If you want a cheap hobby take up airsoft. When will (some of you) learn that quality and reliability come at a price. The current cost of the vz58 is ample inexpensive for what you get.

The reason our ecconomy is in the ####ter is because of the WalMart mentality of buying everything made by slave labour to save a few dollars and killing jobs in north America. If $800 is $400 too expensive for you, I suggest a new hobby.

lol ya I'll bump this one. very true.

I know no country has adopted it except the czechs. Plenty of countries use the type 81 wich is loosely ak based. Take a look at the usa vz's, they are relatively cheap there yet everyone buys ak's. the vz obviously has major flaws in reliability take a look at the torture tests the vz just quits as soon as a little dirt touches it.

And how many of those people buying AK's in the US know what a VZ is? The only "Torture tests" I've seen of the VZ rifles are less than 5 minutes videos of someone who gets one stoppage and quits. (Much like the: "MY GLOCK STOVE PIPED ONCE SO GLOCK SUX! LOOOOL" videos that plague the internet).

The list of users on Wikipedia puts the Type 81 as adopted by 8 countries. 4 of which still require a citation to confirm they did in fact use the type 81. I cannot find any type 81 torture tests, and in general very minimal information about the type 81 at all. I'll leave my opinion on the Type 81 open. It could be better than the VZ family of rifles, but given the lack of information I'm not really holding my breathe because Bangladesh, China, Myanmar and Pakistan used it, plus maybe Sri Lanka, Sudan, Nepal, and Algeria might have used; it is not going to have me running for a pre-order. I'll have to see one in action. Meanwhile, there's a wealth of Knowledge about the VZ family and the one in my safe has gone bang and hit the target every time :D
