6.5 x 55 new elk rifle pics

.5 Moa or better with a cool down shot in between is not reality
More like 5 shots right now

Even a quick 5 shot group, the first 3 should be touching (or at least very close to) and if that Krieger wanders at all for the next 2, it won't be much.

I would fathom to bet that if you found THEE load for it that it would shoot 1/2-3/4 moa x 5 shot groups.

I would not try to take an animal at the distances you are talking with a 2" load, at 100-150yd/m yes, at longer distance where atmospheric conditions, nerves, shooting position, etc come into play....surely not.

Anyway, your rifle, you can do as you wish.......if your happy with that load, by all means, go have fun with it.

very nice looking rig
did you have to open up the bolt face to fit the 6.5X55? if no, what brass brand are you using

All the American made ammo use .473" brass and not the .480" standard that the 6.5x55sweed was designed to be.

I've shot FED, REM, WIN ammo to obtain most of my 6.5x55 brass.
Not sure about Rem700's but my Win M70 has a standard bolt face. (.480") a Privi partizan (.480") brass fits in the gun but its tight. I can gently extract a round into my palm when using Rem,Fed,Win brass but find this task more challenging with privi brass as it doesn't want to easily twist away from the bolt face.
I learned that the American brass makers use the .473" rim Dia the hard way... I had some very nice nickel plated Federal 6.5x55 brass that I ripped the rim off of half of them trying to resize them....I used the correct case holder in my press.....not thinking that my federal brass were made from factory resized 30-06 cases....which is what the reloading manuel says NOT to do because its dangerous.....unless your gun was also chambered to this bastardized specification.

I have been fortunate to hunt Elk in both B.C. and Alberta as I used to live in B.C. I have hunted Elk in the Fort Nelson area for many years by means of "fly-in" camps and also in the Kootenays, near Canal Flats. In Alberta, I usually hunt in various areas where there is a general 3 point or better season, but last year after waiting 10 years for a high enough priority, I got drawn for bull Elk in South western Alberta just outside the Waterton Parks area. As far as distance, I like to call them in as close as possible (makes them easier to shoot)...my personal best for Elk would be 35 yards. The longest distance on an Elk for me is about 440 yards....My rifle is a .300 Win mag.....

Have a cabin in fair mount and spent 60 days there last year alone
Been hunting elk in that area for over 20 years and moose hunting way up north for 17 years
Harvest 3 animals ever year my 1 elk and my muly and my white tail
Taken many elk at the 500+ to around 700
Using a 7mm mag ,this is not a hobby for me
I live hunting elk

You guys hunt elk in Alberta I thought you shoot cows in the field from your truck

Just like you guys in BC sit around and shoot bears at the local dump, right? H:S:

BTW, I know what a brake is for. I was asking why you'd put one on such a pussycat of a rifle.

Congrats on the rifle, I think it looks great. Everything on it is what you wanted and I honestly wouldn't care about anybody else's opinion, it's your rifle.

In terms of accuracy, did you have the action trued and is it bedded? If the gun is properly constructed then I think it should shoot well and then it really comes down to load development, or your own ability.

I don't know your load development process but I think you aren't close to being done. I guess if you have gone through powder, primer, project and seating depth combinations then I would start pointing my fingers elsewhere.

Thanks for sharing.
