Thinking about a "real" scope for my MKII BTVSS

Hey guys,

I have a MKII BTVSS and it is a super awesome little .22. I currently have a Simmons 3-9 on it but I find it's really lacking. What do you recommend for just plinking and hunting? I don't want to spend a crazy amount but will pay for quality. I have a .204 with the same stock with a bushnell tactical 6-24x50 on it and I love it. It sits a lot higher than my scope on the MKII and I find it helps me shoot a lot better. For some reason the Simmons doesn't fit me as low as it is and it always throws me off. That could probably be fixed by some higher rings I would assume but I still want something with a little more clarity and reliability.

Cheers,

J

Had a tasco 6-24x then put a 10-40 tasco on my BTVS. I have since bought a real scope, Sightron S3 10-50x wow what a difference!
Please look at 4scopes.com
I saved $200+ on my scope and about $75 on burris rings.
No import issues and only paid gst and shipping costs.

i have the same gun and im running a Cabela's house brand, Pine Ridge i think its called.
its actually really nice glass!

when i was first told that their house brand was good optics i laughed, then my dad came home with 5 of them (!!!!) and i tried them.... and they are really nice!

i ended up butting one on my MKII and my new ruger build. went with the rime-fire normal one for my ruger and the tactical one for my MK. no complaints and they are super nice to use.
and the price!
i think the one was 129 and the other..... 169???

anyways, dont count them out, go check them out if you happen to be by a Cabela's

I know optics is important and I'm far from cheap but I have a problem putting $1000 glass on a $500 gun. I had a look yesterday at some lower end vortex yesterday. Crossfire I think. Seems to have nice glass and great value. I'm gonna try one in the near future.
On another note, I have one big fat melon of a head yet I tend to prefer my scopes hugging the barrel.

I don't. I'm about to put a Vortex Viper PST on a CZ 452.

If you can afford it, keep in mind that you will enjoy a better scope more, and you can sell it on the EE for a very minimal discount over new $ if you want something different.

Part of the beauty of the EE here is that you can try various things and recoup most of your costs. Consider it a rental fee. Experiences cost money, but they don't have to cost a lot of money.

My True Match rimfires wear 36X Leupolds or 6.5-20 x 40 EFR Leupolds.
One has a 24X Weaver with the 1/8 min dot. Seems quite good.
Lesser rifles still command good optics, usually Leupold.
A rifle shoots only as well as one can see. Why stint on the optics?

Obviously good glass is better than OK glass, but for a .22 where you are rarely/never shooting past 200yds you can get by with OK glass. I've tried a few different Nikon, bushnell and leupold "rimfire" scopes but they were all junk. I also couldn't justify a 1k scope for a .22 and I ended up sticking with a mueller APT for my 10/22 build. I like it so well (for the money) that I have another one coming for another .22.

4.5-14 works well for me for gophers and targets to 200yds.

$250

Yeah, buy a good scope for your 22lr, especially if it's your target rifle. It usually ends up being the one you look through the most and it pays off in the long run. I put a Viper, then a Viper PST on my 22lr and it's great. Worth it every time you look through it.

The only time I'd consider a cheaper scope is if it was just a plinking rifle, then it really doesn't matter. If you're shooting for groups and range, get something good.

Try and find a used baush and Lomb made in Japan, or an old bushnell scope chief. They work great. Adjustable objective 6-18 is a great scope for a 22 you get money better value when buying used.

I've got a Vortex Crossfire 3 - 9 x 40 on one Mk II and the other is scopeless at the moment.

I did put a Redfield Revenge on my new 93 mag and it is sweet.

Nothing but good things to say about sightron, have one of their fixed power SIII models on my 10/22, has a crazy amount of elevation built into it. I believe 150MOA from bottom of the adjustment range to the top. Its great fun shooting out to 300 yards with this set up. I think they're going for approximately $630 over at mystic precision.

I just picked up a bushnell trophy 6-18x40 with AO and mounted it on my xt22vr!

It's super clear glass and "finer" reticle make it a great choice.
After I bought it i whipped it out in the jeep and had to play with it! The sign about 600 yards away was clear as day! I'm gonna love this scope!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I seem to be drawn to the Vortex Crossfires or diamondbacks... I'm looking for something with a very fine reticle though... hmmm.

Ill tell you what I didn't like about the crossfire. Glass was very nice. The zoom ring on 2 that I played with was easy to turn in one area and stiff as hell in another. (Lets say on a 3-9 it was smooth from 3-5 but from 5-9 is was stiff as hell) A third scope was consistent thru the range. To me that shows poor quality control. If I was to buy a crossfire, no way it would be online. I would want to play with the one in buying and make sure it doesn't gave the same problem because that would be super annoying.
