A few months ago a buddy of mine and I made a drunken pact to both buy SKS's. Well we ordered two Chinese military surplus SKS's from Canadaammo.

I was totally prepared for them to be pretty mediocre. I could not have been more wrong. Its built like a tank and runs like a sewing machine. I grab it every time when I go shooting and it never disappoints. I'm even getting pretty good with the stripper clips. I even enjoy cleaning it if you can believe that.

I also found the ultimate solution for cleaning corrosive residue, the wifeys hand steamer cleaner. Blows it off in seconds and flushes the bore and gas port very quickly.

They are SO much fun.

For anyone that has been putting it off. Do not delay any longer. Get one, hell.. get 10. :D

I am late to the SKS party but I am a believer.

Yah bro I'm a late bloomer, well i just ordered an authentic genuine hardwood, non refurb, 1953 izhevsk from westrifle, and I'm not sure whether to keep it as a collectible or just shoot the crap out of it.
Maybe i should get another from wholesale and just use that one to shoot the crap out of it.

I had a Chinese one many years ago and didnt much care for it.
I'm a big guy and it just didnt fit right. It felt like my nose was jammed against the reciever cover.
Then I got one of the Russian ones a year or so ago, and it feels much better.
Perhaps the LOP is a bit longer.

Anyway, with x39 ammo being so cheap, it is now one of my most fired guns.

Just received my Chinese SKS from Wolverine a few days ago and I love it! Took it to the range yesterday and put 100 rounds through it with zero issues. I was so impressed with this thing that I ordered 3 more. Two for me and one for a friend. At $150-$175 brand new, you can't afford not to get these.

The military chinese and russians have the same LOP.
There are a few solutions:
1. get a 1" or 2" cheapie rubber spacer made for the sks.
I have a 1" one, it works ok.
2. get a slip on recoil pad, that's good for 1".
However, that is better but still a bit short for me.
Therefore, I recommend a wood spacer made from plywood fitted to the back end (reuse the same screws used on the stock butt plate), with a slip on medium recoil pad over that, to hide the plywood. Here is a photo of the cheapie rubber one, the spacer before and after mounting on the gun, and the gun before fitting the slip on over the spacer.

I have a '54 tula and it is one of the guns I won't part with. Like my 10/22, too much fun to get rid of.

Enjoy! Glad you're having fun with yours.

I'm a big guy too, so I do find the stock a bit short, and I've got a 53 Tula with a hardwood stock. When I first took it down to the range on the 3rd shot the gun punched me in the eye, luckily I was wearing safety glasses so no harm done, but it's a puny gun for a guy who's 6'4. I went and bought a muzzle break from West Rifle, hopefully that'll take off some of the edge, because I honestly don't want to get a new stock of I can help it, it just looks to good with the wood stock.

Welcome to the club! I have two Russkies myself, one stock and one with the older ATI folder on it (and soon a promag scope mount). They're an absolute blast on the range or in the woods, and a little more accurate than some will tell you (not a benchrest gun though! :) ).

6'2" here and yeah we're not the size of the average Russian or Chinese conscript. When I shoot a stock SKS I have a tendancy to whack myself in the nose with the back of my thumb. They make a plastic recoil pad that replaces the steel buttplate and adds an inch. Way better and no permanent modification to the gun.

Bought 2 , one referb ,and one non referb/safe queen both are 1954 's , always buy 2 save on shipping !!
