I just moved to the lower mainland and was looking for a range to join. I was thinking of Mission. I like long range shooting, in Ontario I was just getting involved in f-class then had to move so now I am wanting to get back at it. I plan on joining bc rifle association. So will Mission work or is there a better range.

Mission is your only option for out to 300 yards. I'm not sure but being a member of the BC rifle association may get you access to the military range near Chilliwack (600 yards). Maybe a member will chime in.

There are three F-class shoot at Mission during the season if I recall correctly. All using the 300m ISSF targets. BC ISSF Sierra Championship is the most popular one and the first shoot of the season. MR&G ISSF Championship is popular too being the first shoot of to start the season. All are fun and you'll meet great people. I'm not a member at mission but a member with the BCRA I've shot a Mission and it's a great environment. BCRA membership will get you access to Vokes and qualify you for the awards at the competition. Also look on the BCRA website for forms and upcoming events schedule. If you have a chance and willing to drive 3hrs to Kamloops try out the Farky or Running of the V-bulls both fill up fast and super fun shooting 300m & 500m.

Ok Thanks I will check it out

I like Mission and it has become more welcoming in recent years ( previously there was a very 'fuddy' feel to the place ). It has excellent facilities and is a great place to shoot both from the bench and more importantly to me from the prone (some other clubs in LMD discourage prone shooting ).

There are a lot of Fclass shooters that belong to our club, myself being one of them , we hold a club 300 once a month on Wednesday evening in the summer and host three Fclass matches a year, All of our matches are finished for the year , the next big match is the BC provincials held at Volks millitary range in Chilliwack , you have to join the BCRA to have acess and shoot in the matches , there is also a club 600 at Volks throughout the winter, the other two matches in BC will be The Farky and the V-Bull wich are held in Kamloops in October , these are two day matches and are 300 and 500 yds.The Mission Club is a good place to join for those interested in Fclass.

I am a member at Mission and enjoy shooting there. We have MANY competitive shooters who shoot TR, F-Class, Bench Rest, and Precision/Tactical rifle. There is always someone there will give you a hand/advice if needed...........It is also the only 300 yard range in the lower mainland.

For shooting on General Vokes Range you require a BCRA membership.

I mailed off an application for mission today. I plan on joining BCRA in the late fall.
I would wait for the 2014 membership form to come out so you get a full year at the intro rate. The f class season is pretty much over at the end of October. Renewals for the following year is sent out in the early spring. I would contact the membership secretary if you plan to apply for bcra membership this fall that they would give you a full
2014 membership year.

Hi,

I'm new to long range shooting and I put in my application to Mission a month ago, still waiting for my membership in the mail.

For the BCRA membership to get access to Volks millitary range in Chilliwack, are you only allowed access to Volks during the competitions? or can you get access to Volks for practice outside of the competition days?

Thanks,
April

April;

The Military runs Vokes range and as such, each year the BCRA and Military representative come to agreement on dates of availability for the BCRA which are still subject to possible cancellation. Of those dates assigned to the BCRA, some are designated for an introductory day, several practice matches but the bulk assigned for various provincial championships (BC service rifle, BC Precision, BC TR and F-Class and the like.) You cannot just show up at Vokes and hope to shoot....it doesn't work like that.

If you would like access to Vokes Range then I suggest that you join the BCRA. In the spring, they will then send you a schedule of the various matches, practices and the like for the upcoming year.

Hope this helps, Brian
