280 to 35 Whelen brass

I'm wondering if I would be better off buying 280 Rem to neck up to 35 rather than the 30/06 fed high energy brass I have been using as I am running short of it. Any problems with the neck too thin? What are you guys using? Any and all comments appreciated.

BTW 56 gr of RL15 Hornady 250 round nose goes into 1.25". Didn't think I could shoot that well!

I also used the 250 grain pill pushed by Reloder 15, but a bit stiffer load...60.0 grains
It would shoot moa in my 700 Classic. A true hammer!!
I used Winchester 30-06 Brass exclusively.

Federal brass is known for being softer than other brands. Like Berretta boy says, buy 35 Whelen. Either way, I'd be thinking .30-06 only. Not as far to neck up.
 
The reason I am considering the 280 is I thought I might end up with a longer case after all said and done. The 56 grain load is the first I tried, so I stayed with it. No idea how fast its going.

I used .280 rem brass because it was all that was available at the time. sizes a little long and it is best to run a .30 cal sizer through first then the .35, but works great and is cheaper. My load is 55grains imr3031 with 225 sierra GK, shoots under moa at 200 with 750 Remington at 2620fps. Very happy with caliber.

Sorry slight correction, checked notes and load is 53.5 grains not 55 and I had two cartridges left after sight in and two shots at 200 were within an inch of each other dead on with two inch high at 100 sight in. Very happy with performance.
 
If you've got buckets of empty .280 brass, go for it, but size up in a couple of steps 7mm-.30 or 8mm, then from there to .35. If you have to buy brass anyway, just get Remington .35 Whelen brass.
 
I ve resized 30-06 hornady, winchester, RP, federal all without issue for the 35 whelen. Never tried anything smaller, the advise to resize in steps when using 280 makes sense to me? for the 35 whelen Ive been using 225 gr accubonds over RL15 @ 2638 fps Ive been looking for some 250gr bullets to try but havent found any. Does anybody know who has a decent amount of 35 cal bullets in stock?
 
I've necked up .270 brass to .30 and then .35 for my Whelen. No problems. My original .35 brass has worn out and when I went to buy new, all I could find was a bag of 50 Rem .30-06. Going to size that next week and load them up in prep for big game seasons that are coming fast...
