Hi, im wondering if this is normal with red dot sights. Do most go dim after shooting about 40ish rounds (sks) ? After I shoot about 40 rounds the light goes dim and then it takes a minute for the light to go back to normal. This is a tasco red dot from cdn tire. Thanks

Sounds defective, or as Rivet said...

Shock affecting LED brightness is really odd. I could see it going OFF, but dimming is weird. Here are my thoughts, stemming from perceived voltage drop:

1- Power source: Could the shock be affecting the batteries themselves temporarily? (get higher quality batteries)
2- LED driving circuit: Could the electronics controlling the PWM (usually used to extend battery life) to the LED be thrown off somehow? (defective or cheap electronics)

Yeah, I agree with the above, this really shouldn't be happening... But, as has been said before, you get what you pay for.

If you're not interested in "upgrading", then get them to exchange it. If it still continues, try a new (and better) battery. If that doesn't help, then you may just have to deal with it. Does it persist if you turn it off and then turn it back on right away?

Thanks for the info. Will see what happens next time at the range and will put a new battery in before. Didnt really turn it on and off when it happened to test that part out. Will see if it does tho next time.

I had one of those Tapco red dots and I couldnt even see the dot if the sun was shining. It was a pretty useless optic in my opinion. I have a NC Star model that I got for my SR22 and it seems to work pretty good so far, at least I can see the dot outside.
