I want a rem 700 in olive green AICS (no need to fold), and a muzzle brake.

Which rem 700 model should I buy, and which muzzle brake would you get?

Is the 5r worth it over the police model? I prefer the blacked out model.
What about a reg 700 action and barrel in aics? The issue with more expensive is that they have a better stock, but I would replace it anyway for an aics...

The police model would be my second pick.

You could go with a SPS varmint if you want to keep costs down. Or you can put the more expensive stock up for sale after your AICS shows up.

5r will give you 1:11.25 twist instead of 1 in 12 which is enough to spin 185gr assuming your talking about .308. The 5r is definitely worth it over the PSS for .308. If you want to save money then go with an SPS and build it up bit by bit.

Save money up front anyway. The feel of the SPS bolt and the 5R are not in the same league. Neither are the barrels. The 5R also comes with an adjustable trigger. Mine is very crisp. The stocks are definitely worth some money on the EE.

You can also blacken the stainless with this stuff. http://www.caswellcanada.ca/shop/product.php?productid=29710&cat=128&page=1. These guys are really easy to deal with. I have used their black oxide kits for many jobs.

5R rifling is nice. I was told by the Remington rep. that the Police and LTR have no MIM parts in them. Any of the 3 models would be good choices.

This one is in .243
Tossed the factory Remington stock. Added an extended bolt handle. Had the barrel chopped down to maintain the same OAL once the brake was installed.
Muzzle brake was actually made/manufactured by the gunsmith who cut down, threaded and re crowned the barrel.
'Looks ###y and is VERY effective.

I shoot a 5r so I am aware of how nice the bolt is. The old Remington triggers are also adjustable by a smith. My old 700VS with a good trigger job was much nicer then my new 5r is. I plan on dumping the xmark pro trigger in favor of a Timney.

That's funny... I'm shooting a 208gr out of my 5R and hitting over 1000yards with no stability issues... Quit believing the internet gossip.

Also, IMO, the Timney is not worth the cost. I have one and can't see much or any improvement over a nicely tuned Xmark that was on my previous ACC-SD.

Sorry it wasn't really directed at you just letting him know that bringing an SPS up to the same standard as a 5R would cost more than just buying the 5R. I wasn't very clear.

Still on the fence about the Timney. Lots of people can't seem to feel the difference. Maybe I'll move all the way up to a Jewel.

I spin 168 Hybrids and have no problems at 1k either......I know for a fact that the old Remington trigger on my .223 what was tuned by Prophit River was a heck of a lot nicer then my Xmark pro. It is simply an opinion, but in my eyes the xmark pro was s step backwards from the old Remington triggers.

Why not get a donor 700SA or an SPS and sell what you don't need. Spin a custom barrel on it and your ahead of any 5R or PSS for not a hatful more cash !
