My dad passed away in '96 after a short fight with cancer but I have pics of his time with the CF carrying FAL's... Wish I could have one just because its what he had. Sound crazy?

Was scanning in old pics:

He's the guy front and centre with not one but 2!!! FALs. Lucky man. Even looks happy despite being out in the BC jungle.

Thanks for sharing the picture, I recently lost a friend that was in the military when we used fn's he's had nothing but good to say about them except that they were heavy. Wish I could own one also.

My cousin carried one in ppcli I believe. He raved about it. Was it the fnc1 or am I thinking of another rifle?

They were a great rifle and it was the FN C1, I also got to fire the FN C2 which was even more fun. We should be able to have one as it is part of our history.

My Grandfather owner his full auto fal for the military it was a fight to get it but he got it ended up costing 10,000 and many months of requesting it. They offered one out the back of the truck but he said no I want my rifle it was select fire. It ended up deactivated in the end but that's the way it goes.

"...No rhyme or reason..." {rohibited since 1978. Too scary and to sell 'em to anybody would have shown fiscal responsibility by the Socialist F**ks. All of 'em were destroyed. Including those that never got issued.
"...My Grandfather owner his full auto..." Not in Canada he didn't.
"...it was the FN C1..." C1A1, but close enough. We called 'em FN's ayway. They were heavy and the rear sight felt fragile. Never saw a sight break though. Lots of FH tangs got hit. Suspect that was due to the reliable but crappy accuracy IVI ammo.

I always find it strange the fal is banned but the battle rifle of the united states from the same era the m14 never got banned. I realize its very simmilar to a garand. You would think the rifle of the most powerful nation would be first to go.

Actually, the M-14 IS a prohib. It's 12(3) Converted auto.

The chinese copies were never designed to fire Full auto.

ps sincere condolences to the OP

Commercial FN LAR was 100% semi auto. Didn't matter though when it came to the ban hammer.

My old man loved the FN from his time in.

I've always felt that current and past military service rifles should automatically be available to civilians in non-restricted form.

I still own one, sitting in the USA due to its status in Canada, Very Sad considering there are other rifles that are semi auto .308's that are not prohibited!

Looking at this picture, I just had a flash-back.
