Help on deciding a Lever Action

I own the marlin 1894C in 357 (Cowboy shooting) and a 2012 Marlin 336 in 30-30. Love them both. Both love cast bullets/trailboss powder and have been 100% reliable. The quality is much better on the newer ones.

I had a Henry, now that quality was a little to be desired, in terms of the headspacing (see my previous posts on the subject). The other complaint I had was the tube magazine, a real pain to reload.

Winny's are nice, but pricey for the the same gun caliber, in my opinion.

I was not impressed with the Rossi nor the Mossberg offerings as the Marlin seemed way tighter and less rattle.

Imo, it's like anything else in life - you get what you pay for - personally, I fooled around with Henrys & Marlins for most of my life. But finally, I was able to buy myself a retirement present......

BLR '81 in .308 - sweetest most gorgeous lever gun I have ever shot. Save up your loonies - you won't be sorry.:)

I have the opposite experience. I looked at the Marlins and Henry's, etc., first and eventually became enamored with the concept of the box magazine and lever action. After four years and feeling the bolt slam back (due to the gear ratios) and dealing with those unique rear sights, I gave it away and bought a Henry. After observing some significant chamber issues, bought a 2012 Marlin. That's the one I'm sticking with and my experiences only, for what they are worth.

Thanks for all replies . After looking at some new and second hand I ended up buying a new Mossberg 464 (30-30 pistol grip) at Shooter's choice for a resonable $395 . Mainly bought it because I have mossberg 500 and model 800 and have had good luck with them. I really like the quality of the wood and blueing finish. I don't care to much for the plain leaf type front sight and may change down the road. This thing is also fairly accurate . I tried Fed 150gr and hornady lever revolution . They were 5" inch at 100 yards and about 4"inch for lever revolution both 5 shot groups factory sights, no adjustment.. also got some new brass , berry's bullets and want to try some homeloads soon. :) :)
