Do you like your Ruger Hawkeye?

I had a m77 hawkeye 375 ruger Alaskan. I liked it, accuracy seemed decent enough. I didnt get a chance to try my hand loads for it. Mine got sacrificed to fund a cooper in 35 whelen. I would get another m77 hawkeye.

I like some of em. I've shot a fair bit with a .375 Ruger Alaskan, a wood stocked .270, and I am in the process of acquiring a Hogue stocked .30/06. In my experience these rifles are accurate and reliable, and handle well in terms of balance and ergonomics. The Ruger scope mounting system is better than most, although I sometimes find its an issue getting the scope mounted far enough forward. The trigger, in my experience, is one of the better ones you'll get off the shelf.

My criticism with Ruger is dropping the Alaskan in favor of the rifle they sell now, and the Scout Rifle, other than the 10 shot magazine has no advantage over the light weight carbine models they already made, but I get that there is a market for such a rifle. The muzzle thingy leaves me cold, and the stock appears to have the feel of a 2X4.

Ruger Hawkeye

Personally, I'd kinda like to get one in 7mm-08 or .243, stainless in a pepper laminate stock.

I've owned a few M77s and still have one Hawkeye in 375Ruger. They have all been very accurate and reliable. One of my favourite factory hunting rifles.

The changes Ruger made to this years lineup really had me shaking my head.

I really like the Rugers. I've owned a few, still have a 375 African. Decent trigger, controlled round feed, 3 position safety, accurate enough. Nice handling and good looking rifles. If it's a decent deal, I would not hesitate at all.

Canadian scouts don't have the flash suppressor - we have the 18" stainless barrel with no threading.
I agree the stock doesn't feel as good as my buddy's CZ550 with its turkish walnut bavarian stock, but it feels pretty good in my hands!

I've handled a few and although I think they're a solid, dependable rifle I just can't like it.

I love the old tang safety 77's, still have a couple.

Rugers seem to be very subjective. Everyone that I know who owns one, loves them. Others have seem to have negative things to say about them. Of course I guess that you could say that about any other brand as well.

I thought the stock improvements on the Hawkeye were excellent. A bit slimmer and trimmer with wraparound checkering, which is a huge plus to me on any rifle. I like to have checkering on the bottom of the forend.
Mine's a walnut / blue .257 Roberts. Accurate, handles nicely and the action locks up like a bank vault. The new trigger, while not adjustable, is quite good on my particular rifle.
It shoots hunting loads around MOA; my best-ever group was 4 shots in an inch at 200 yards, but that was an anomaly, just a bit of good luck. Still, considering I've never shot game past 200 yards, it is abundantly accurate.
The one thing that I'd like to have on the rifle is a DM option. I like the convenience of the quick unload when wearing gloves in cold weather. But that's nitpicking.

If I required another bolt rifle for hunting, I'd look seriously at another Hawkeye.
