Thanks. I was going to put a 20X scope and shoot it off a sandbag, but he said he wanted to practice a bit. I doubt I could have done much better. he just got back from Bisley, so he should be in good form.

The kid is in his mid 40's. Has been competing with a 308 TR since age 10. This is not the kid you met who shoots CQB. I have two boys, about the same age, who shoot two entirely different types of competitions.

Both have more natural ability than I do. I guess they got it from their mother, who used to delight in out-shooting me.

Yeah I know. The young lad comment made me snicker. Darn near 1/2 MOA is impressive though. I can't help having respect for the shooting abilities of TR shooters. It's not the sport for me but it's impressive.

It is remarkable how well peep sights can do with a suitable aiming mark. More than once I have seen the same results with irons as with a 20X scope, off sandbags. IN TR the big challenge is reading the wind from shot to shot.

I recall shooting the Gov's Finals in Ottawa one year (in the 50's) and making a 24 minute change to go from a bull to a bull (1,000 yard strong wind change of direction)
