So I trigger locked my new Sig, and of course the stock case isn't liking it very much:

What case would you all recommend to transport the gun to/from the range? I have inexpensive Plano cases for my long guns and I'm thinking I'll maybe do the same for my pistol. I don't want to tear up the foam in the standard case.

I have a med-sized double pistol case from Wholesale Sports for my Sig. It holds the pistol, a bunch of mags [6 or 7, I forget], also the .22LR conversion slide and barrel and magazines for .22. It about all fits.

I have never found the cases handguns are sold in to be useful for anything but longterm storage or shipping. I always go with a larger case for going to the range. They aren't expensive.

I have a whole stack of empty pistol cases sitting on top of my safe. Never use them -- why advertise to all and sundry that I own guns? When I go to the range, I carry guns, locks, ammo, hearing protection, shooting glasses, sometimes targets; all in a hard-sided, lockable briefcase that nobody looks twice at.

Use the promo code nanuk10 for %10 off. I have a 920 and it easily holds 2 pistols and an uplula loader on the bottom foam and 16 or more mags on the top foam. You can also buy replacement foam if you ever decide to change your configuration. They are inconspicuous and strong and don't cost a ridiculous amount like a pelican but do exactly the same thing.
 
I've just got a cheap Mastercraft aluminum "tool"case from CT. It was 30$ and has pull out foam thats easily customizable. I've got the foam geared up now to hold my sig 226, 5 9mm mags, the .22 conversion slide and a .22 mag. Cheap and works fine for me.
 
Purchased two cases from a gun shop that holds up to 4 pistols and within no time the combination locks broke. Now I have the same as Fergus does. As a matter of fact I bought two of them at Canadian Tire when they were on sale $20 each, one now a spare. Looks like a toolkit case and I find the key locks more reliable than the combination locks. 1/4 the cost and holding up much better.
 
You don't have to spend lots on a case that's for sure, however I can stand on mine (205lbs) and it doesn't bend. Pelicans or copies of, are really that good and can be used 20 years from now to hold a camera,hunting gear, a wallet and phone while on a canoe trip etc.
 
You know - I value my firearms pretty highly, so I did some research into which cases are best for what.

I ended up using using the Nanuk 925 for my pistols - Canadian made, and sold by Wanstalls - a CGN site sponsor.
This case is best described as a Pelican product on 'roids - simply the best.

For my prized SANs, Benelli, Fabarm, and KRISS, I use the im3100 Pelican Storm Case - 'nuff said - period.
Best place I found to purchase this case was B & H Camera Supply in NY, NY. Half of what everyone else is charging + free shipping to anywhere (think your US mail box) in the States.

Good advice already, from cheap tool boxes to good deals on very fancy cases. But also, if you put one of those cheap $1 trigger locks on it, rather than a ‘real’ trigger lock, your pistol will fit in the cut-out of the factory case. Site sponsor Canada Ammo has them back in stock (you can even get 50 for $40!).
 
+1 for canadian tire alluminum cases, bought on sale for 20$, and now carry 2 x 1911, 1x gp6 and mags... Great case and inconspicuous....
 
My mistake.... the case I bought is a Nanuk 915

Pics are always helpful when your trying to visualize how a setup might work for you, so heres the Nanuk 915 the way I have it setup.





Theres obviously a ton more room for way more mags and other items between the 2 pistols... this was my first layout. If I had it to do over I would probably do it differently. Luckily, for $30 I can buy new foam and try again.
 
+1 for the Nanuk from Hardcases.ca. I have a 945, got foam locally and cut to hold pistols hammers up. But with 7 in there, the newer case with wheels would be nicer.

Thanks for that.

I ended up buying a $15.00 Plano case. Easily holds 2 mags, loader, (and will probably get an extra couple of mags in there after).
