Cheapest Place to Buy IDPA Targets?

Another option if you have spare time is to make a cardboard trace of the target. Use this to lightly trace the target out on the brown paper used for wrapping parcels. Cut out several targets out of any scrap cardboard. Use Super 77 adhesive to paste the paper target on to the cardboard. Once the target has too many holes in it, glue on another paper target. I find the cardboard last a long time using this method and if I trace light enought I can still score the hits properly but can't see the lines while practicing.

"If" you're close enough to the US border...
I order them from Target Barn and have 'en shipped to a place in Niagara Falls.

Even with gas, shipping and taxes ( "if" cbsa bothers) they're way less expensive than any Canadian supplier.

Order enough and your per target cost gets even lower.

Our club gets cardboard blanks and then one evening a year, instead of (or before) shooting, we all stencil and cut enough targets to last us a year or more.

I transfered a proper target to some thin plexi glass by using a dremil to etch the scoring rings in it.

Then I made a "blank" out of thin plywood: so now I can cut the outline of the target whenever I want out of old boxes.

At the range I use the plexi to score.

Works like a hot-damn.

The only "OFFICIAL" targets are sold by SFRC. There are good options for home made ones like above.

EDIT: Official Canadian Supplier.

There are TWO official licensed suppliers of official IDPA targets in Canada. Ontario based SFRC AND the ATHL located in Calgary. IDPA, would defend, if necessary their copyright in Canada. Neither group makes much money on the targets. Costs of manufacturer are higher in Canada due in part to the low volumes sold and higher infrastructure costs incurred by both the supplier and the manufacturer. If we don't support the target suppliers when and where possible we will end up with none in Canada.

I subscribe to the theory of economic Darwinism...
If I can't get a product in Canada for le$$ than elsewhere...
I'll buy elsewhere.
'Sorry if that's not "supporting" Canadian business, but... Canadian business should figure out a way to be more competitive.

Compete or die.

They have.

They agree to be a licensed target supplier and sell the targets at break even prices to support a relatively small group of shooters aka as Action Pistol shooters. By doing so they can increase their sales on products they can actually make some money on. If you live close to the border you can take advantage of US retailers who have a market 50 times larger than that in Canada, who don't have to worry about paying payroll taxes like employer contributions to Health Care, CPP, UIC along with various combinations of Federal & Provincial sales taxes and have't yet been prohibited to sell the items to foreign buyers then fill your boots. When, at some point you get laid off because the company you work for depends on Canadian consumers for sales feel free to whine about cheap imports taking your job.

For those of us who don't live close to the border we buy in bulk once a year or every two years from the closest Cdn supplier. At around a buck a target it works. The ATHL makes some money from the sales that support their club and we get targets at a reasonable price.

IIIRC there are four or five licensed IDPA target suppliers in the US servicing 23K shooters. We have two in Canada supplying 500 shooters. How is your economic Darwinism theory working now.
