So I've finally found a good 870P receiver - EE Special - and have started to smooth it out & polish some of the moving parts.

I started with a few 870 Express receivers, but for one reason or another they weren't up to snuff, and really wanted the Police Magnum. I started with an older S&J setup, and although the rail is just what I was looking for - I think I'm going to go with a Mesa High-Mount adapter.

I'd like to shortern things down to something like the 870 Modular Combat Shotgun.

With a 10 or 11" barrel & mag tube cut down to 3+1 to match, and threaded to mount a Brake/Breaching Attachment like this...

I figure if I'm going to have the extra length of the breaching attachment, I'd like to stick a +1 tube extension below it. Which will bring me back up to 4+1.

I've already considered going with a 12.5 or 14" barrel with Vang Comp work, and leaving the mag tube as is, but I want the brake and teeth on the gun. I would likely still get the Vang bore work done, but want the ability to take the brake and +1 extension off and be left with something like this...

Anyone have any ideas?
I'm curious as to whether or not there will be room on the shortest MCS barrel to thread and mount a brake, with clearance for the extension underneath. If not, I was considering shortening the 14" MCS barrel to maybe 11.5-12", if doing so is within the regs..

Cant shorten a 14" barrel

No, you can't.
But I'm sure I could find one somewhere that is the appropriate length...
If the brake & +1 extension will both fit on the shortest MCS barrel, I won't have to search for one.

No one is currently making after market 10" barrels, and Remington won't sell any (and they can't be exported to us anyway). Custom made is really your only option and that would be Dlask. The barrel is flush or a little longer than the mag tube with cap, so as long as the breaching attachment is longer than the plus one, it would work. Honestly for the 2 inches, I would stick with a Dlask 12" Barrel and do the build from there. You can buy it straight from Dlask threaded for a breacher, and you can add any other barrel that you want. Or if you do want to go short, go 8 1/2". Same deal, at least you can get the barrel without having someone do a one off (one offs are way more expensive than off the shelves, or even small runs)

I have a Dlask 12.5", it's plenty short and handy, albeit heavy due to the thick profile.

If I had to do it over again however I'd probably go 14", they're a bit quieter, more safe {you're a bit less likely to get your pump hand out if front of the muzzle, if it slips} and sit flush with a +1 extension.

The extra length over a 12.5" in inconsequential.

As mentioned, If you want short, go 8.5", just make sure a short "entry" level barrel of any kind is what you really want...they're not for everybody.

If you run a 12.5 with a plus1 extension, your breacher/brake will be very, very close to the same length, and it'll be easier to mount a decent sling adapter. The Dlask barrels are also thick enough to have them threaded for chokes - which allows you to get the performance of a long barrel, in a small package.

I think you guys have the right idea with thr 12.5". The MCS barrels are all expensive - if you can get them - and using standard barrels will maintain interchangeability.

Can anyone recommend any good "Tactical" chokes, other than the Remy? They'll likely have a smaller overall diameter than any of the breaching style brakes.

The tip of a rem tac choke on the end of a 12.5" would probably put it's teeth just forward of a 1-shot extension. That'd work for me.

I want a course gun that is more set up like an AR. I don't shoot shotgun often, so I want something that maintains the same ergonomics.
