Can Am Norc 1911 beginner build up and refinishing project. **FINISHED PICS**

Looks cool.

Will be interested how the finish stands up to typical use.

Kinda reminds me of my own Norc-in-Stein..... [Norc frame with Armacoat finish] with myriad of other parts, including a Colt Series 70 top-end:

i was contimplating doing this and now im sold on it after seeing yours!

2 simple questions for ya.

1) the Dlask trigger, i picked up the same one and it wont go in.
i sanded the top and bottom and now those fit but it STILL wont go in, im thinking i will have to sand down the sides as well, did you have this same problem and if so did you have to sand yours down as well??

2) what grips are those?
looks like the magwell is built into the side panels?
Hogue G10 grips?

Can you still see the serial numbers?
Could this be done in ones's basement?

I started by trying to sand the acutal trigger itself down only to realize its not the trigger thats the problem, its the hoop bar (whatever its technically called) thats the problem. Its too tall on the raised side (I think its the top). I had to file off just a tiny bit and it slid right in. The trigger blade itself doesnt need to be touched, or at least it didnt on my gun.

The grips are from FAB defence. I got them from Zahal.org. They have a built in magwell. I really like the feel of them but they are nothing special. Just plastic. Only $25 and the magwell is excellent.

I got the sandblasting done at a shop that builds custom boat motors. Guy charged me $25 to do all of it. Before I coated it the serial number and model name were still very visible (like they are when it comes blued) but the arms-coat seems to have filled in the stamped letters and numbers. They are still there and I would bet they'd come back if it was sandblasted again. But to look at it, you cant see them. Im considering taking the frame to have the serial re-engraved somewhere. Im also considering having "nineteen eleven" engraved on the side of the slide... though it would look cool.

I did this in my garage. The fumes are AWEFUL. If your basement doesnt have some serious venting or air exchange system dont even think about it. Even in my garage with the door open it got so strong I had to leave and I know I wasnt "all there" when I was done. Not good.

i got busy with life and had to leave my trigger, but ill maybe dig it back out tonight once the kids go to bed and have a look at the top of the hoop thingy like you did.

They do list other colors somewhere on the site or on the forum here somewhere. Colors that arent listed on the site. Im sure a red/black scheme would be cool.
 
Nicely done sir. Best looking NORC 1911 I've ever seen. I'll be interested to see updated pics a year from now and see how the finish has held up.

That's what I was thinking when I saw how thick you made the coating. I did 2 STI Spartan with Arma-Coat after checkering the front strap and I had to redo the first one since the serial cannot be read, which is not good when you cross the border with them !!

Using a airbrush makes a better matte finish and less orange peel than the Preval sprayer they sell.
 
Maybe you can just leave the serial numbers intact. Do not re-stamp somewhere else for that might be a problem in case you get stopped and inspected by a cop on your way to the range. Just my 2 cents. Still your call, it's your firearm.
