I had to fetch a friends BLR 308 from Casey at Tactical Ordinance today
and I got a chance to speak with him about the M305.

He says the guns are fine, once in a blue moon the front sight is pressed
on off center but apart from that not to worry. He says the problems are
not from the rifle but from the AMMO guys are running through it and I
believe him. After you speak to this guy for 10 minutes you quickly realize
he has a PHD, MA, MD in gunsmithing as well as decades of hands on
experience.

I'm very happy to have met him and I will be buying a M305 without any
concerns.

Forgot to mention Casey doesn't sell guns.

hes speaking of blow ups like mine and so many others on this forum.

Saying their is no core rifle issues and that all issue are caused by ammo... that would be miss information that you claim to be dispelling.

since blow ups/ headspace/ trigger failures/ gas tube cracks/ indexing issues/ sights falling apart/ soft receivers/ out of spec parts/ bent op rod/ out of alignment op rod guide/ imperity veins in critical components are apparently all caused by ammo and ammo alone, and many have "happened" using every type of ammo, from norc, federal, winchester, UMC, LC and hand loads (many of them under powered) I guess their is some super secret ammo specifically for norcs that no one else knows about would solve all these issues.

I know lots of people get "good" ones... or at least ones that require few new parts/ cheap fixes. But I have yet to see a post 2010 norc cross through my hands that does not have at least 2 of aforementioned problems before it hits the range, and most of them developed more after a few hundred rounds. honestly I'm sick of fixing them for friends because the best I get is 6 pack for a couple hours of my time spent fixing #### that should have never left the factory in the first place (last one had a bent op rod, a guide issue, head spacing issues that made me cringe and a gas cylinder so lose I had to redrill the gas hole after shimming.... this before it had even gone to the range)

Most people are surely aware that the stock configuration M14 was designed to fire 147 gr 7.62 NATO ammo.

I'm amazed there aren't more issues with guys running 175 gr and much higher in these things putting hundreds and thousands of rounds through them lol

Cheap ammo is most likely the problem as the other guys have said. Try a higher quality steel cased brand such as MFS. A bit more money but I havent had any such issues shooting it out of my norc.

These two guys hit the nail on the head.

After spending 30 years around guns I have never met anybody more knowledgeable than Casey
at Tactical Ordinance, the guy is low key, humble and extremely honest. Professor Casey starts of with "7.62 x 51
is a modern "HIGH PRESSURE ROUND" developed in the 1950"s ................................................................................................................................................................................................. and ends his disseratation with "if a guy gave you a box of handloads would you run them through
your gun?"

Casey has a shop full of metal working machines and I have no doubt that he could build you any gun you wanted
within legal restrictions, people as far away as British Columbia send their guns to him in Ontario to have work done.

I doubt any of these M305 experts have dropped a small fortune in metal working machines and or have
a shop that comes close to Casey's, spend 10 minutes with this 50 year old man and you will quickly come to the
conclusion that he has dedicated his entire working life to Guns and Gunsmithing.

This is what another Forum Member had to say about Casey:

Absolutely agree Brendan, Casey is About 20 minutes from me. Just a fantastic guy, trustworthy, Extremely honest and you're absolutely right... a Wealth of knowledge.
He did some trigger work for me on a couple guns recently, same thing, I expected the bill to be twice the amount it was ...
So fortunate to have such a man so handy and close to us!

A I never said anyting about ammo being the issue All I said was mine works great no issues outta the box.. So I guess you need to get new friends

This one flew right over my head.

I have no beef with guys who offer a service to "Hot Rod" M305's but I take issue with
guys who spread fear for what ever reason.

I asked Casey if he would check out my M305 after I bought it and he agreed to but
he thought it wasn't necessary, he said it would be more important to use decent
ammo from a respected manufacturer (PMC) in the gun and not to worry.

Moral of the storey is if you buy ammo made in a mud hut in Afganistan or from
a alcoholic friend who reloads then just make sure you wear a motorcycle helmet when
you shoot your gun.

Not to agree with LEP, but I guess I have to...
There seem to be more issued with the last run. Minor ones, which most uninformed users might not know.

I think another possible culprit is people saying "hey cool gun" and buying it and shooting it without getting some education on the platform.

My rifle had a bent oprod, off center piston, and loose op rod guide out of the box.

Most of the guys shooting Norinco's are not using expensive ammunition.

PMC is not expensive ammo.

This is what Sharon Gun Club has to say about Casey, keep in mind this is a
very old established club.

He also sets up the guns for our Emergency Task Force which is a elite unit.

I bought a Remington shotgun many years ago and had problems, I called Remington
in America and they told me to call Casey and he would fix it for me.

I'm sticking with this guy.

(I bet you if I took some fine measurements of one of my SKS's things would be a bit
wonkey but those loose tolerances are by design and why it goes bang every time.)

Was it made in China? LMFAO!

I think Barney's may just have been lol lol

There is a vocal 3 or 4 people that claim these rifles a sh*t and then there is the thousands of people that do not. Plus all the people with decades of experience competing with the rifle and gunsmithing them that also say they are not sh*t, some of whom have posted in this thread.

Who do you believe?
